Read moreDon't waste your time or money here, stay far away. Went for lunch and the first guy said they don't do take-out. Was about to walk away until the second guy showed up and gave me a different menu and said, yep, take out, what do you want? OK.. weird. Ordered a combo that came with choice of 2 proteins, and some veggies and rice.
It was not a very large portion like you'd expect and receive elsewhere. Not small either, but I was expecting an overloaded container which is what they usually get at other take out places.
Finally, food is ready and I get handed a bag with no utensils or napkins or soy sauce. I had to ask for each one individually. When I asked for soy sauce, he gave me one packet. I asked for another and he said no....... what?? Alright, stingy on the soy sauce. He also took the fortune cookie off the counter so that I couldn't have one with the meal.
I wish the bad stopped there. The food was very hot and fresh, which is all the good I have to say. It was very bland, between the Ginger beef and the sweet and sour pork, they both tasted almost indistinguishable despite the obviously different sauce colourings. Both bland, not very interesting. The steamed veggies were pretty soggy and gross. The rice was more like soup with all the excess sauce at the bottom - which honestly normally I would like, but since the sauce didn't really taste like anything, I felt like I was eating carbs for no reason. I made it about 3/4 of the way through the meal before I thought... why am I still eating this? I threw the rest out. And I am definitely not one to waste food at any opportunity. I'm the "leftovers" person that takes everyones scraps when they don't want them, but this wasn't even worth it here.
Speaking of worth - value was abysmal. $20 for one bland flavoured combo box. Considering you could go get a pizza for $15 or a combo meal basically anywhere else for roughly the same, this was egregious.
Seriously, go ANYWHERE else to...
Read moreThis is an overdue review. My whole family used to like going to this restaurant for the buffet fairly regularly many years ago since it used to be really quite good. Recently my partner and I were craving chinese food and decided to go back here as it'd been so long, several years since my last visit. Unfortunately we were sorely disappointed. We arrived to eat around 7pm on a Tuesday, which is still 4 hours before they close, so you'd expect fresh the food to still be fresh. However, the buffet food was overcooked and dried out from sitting under the lamps for far too long (my guess is many hours), the selection was not hot enough and it honestly seemed like yesterdays leftovers had been warmed up and recycled. There was little to no table service so when we were finished, we went up to the front desk to pay. We had both decided since it was a self-serve buffet and the table service was non-existent, that a tip was not in order. The front desk manager saw that we had not added a tip when we paid and was not at all impressed - his stern words were as follows, "Were you not happy with your food and service? Do you know it is customary to leave a tip?". To which we replied, "the buffet is self-serve, the food was only mediocre, and there was no service - therefore there is no need for a tip.". As we turned and walked out the door he was shouting something but we ignored him. Suffice to say, we will never be returning to New Dynasty since the food has gone downhill, they expect to be tipped even if they're providing no personal service (I don't consider occasional buffet restocking a personal service), plus the mouthy manager was the icing on the cake. There are far, far better places to spend your money in this city. You've...
