I’ve been to Takumi multiple times - service is always good and food is usually exceptional. I came here for lunch today, and I was really excited to order the chirashi bowl, as I had it a few weeks ago and it was delicious. I noticed that today’s chirashi only had 12 pieces, whereas the previous bowl I had not even a month ago had 14 pieces. In addition to this inconsistency, the fish was noticeably stale, and I had a stomach ache for 30 minutes immediately post-meal. I ran to the bathroom and had diarrhea following. I haven’t eaten anything else since 5pm yesterday. The inconsistency is bit frustrating given the price was the same, and paying $30 including tip for 2 pieces less of sashimi, and having a stomach ache and diarrhea due to the lacking-quality of fish. Extremely disappointing. I’ve read other negative reviews about the lack of cleanliness of the restaurant… unfortunately I can attest to that today.
I usually am a return customer based on food quality, service, and the restaurant’s ability to stay consistent. Given this inconsistency and the awful quality of fish today, I wouldn’t pick Takumi as my go-to sushi place in the NW anymore - I’d just go to Ari in inglewood, where, even though it’s an extra 15 minute drive, I know that the food will be consistently good and won’t make me sick.
Quite disappointed, Takumi.
Update: I called the restaurant because I wanted to let them know I felt sick afterward. I spoke with the chef who prepared the meal and the first thing he asked me was why I didn’t say anything when I started eating. He asked me why I didn’t pull him or the server aside. He then stated, “food poisoning doesn’t happen that quick; it will probably be irritation; I don’t think it’s food poisoning, everything went through my hand and I know it’s fresh, but I am happy to do something for you. Maybe a discount or a credit.”
It felt like he was trying to deny that the food could have been bad, and felt like he was denying the fact that I got sick after? I wasn’t calling to point fingers, I just wanted to make sure they were aware… it would have been nice if he had just apologized and offered a discount or refund without constantly trying to defend the food? And copious amounts of diarrhea and abdominal cramping right after a meal is irritation? I work in healthcare and I am dismayed at this experience and how the...
Read moreBad service, food nothing special, not kids friendly. The hostess knew we have 3 kids and immediately looked unhappy. She told us she needed 2 minutes to clean the table but wanted the kids to wait outside in the cold. She said we’re blocking the delivery people. But after we were seated, she let others waited at the same spot where we were at.
Responding to owner’s explanation:
we just entered the premise and were talking to you - obviously we would be standing at the entrance. You could have ask us to stand somewhere else in the restaurant, for example, beside the couple that were in front of us (there was lots of space there) but instead your staff was rude and asked us to wait outside. Is it because we have kids?
we were told by that rude staff that the wait was going to be 2 minutes (and after she said 2 minutes, she added “I just need to clean a table and move some things around, it will be quick”), hence it makes no sense to make us wait outside. I hope your cctv has sound so you can hear it. Also, there were many other customers after us (after we were seated) that stood and waited at the same spot - not sure why that was ok for them? Maybe because they didn’t have kids with them.
you told us to wait in the car - you are assuming we have a car. If that’s your restaurant’s attitude and policy then I would advise everyone to put extra layers on before contemplating on eating at your restaurant.
based on my experience as a customer, I felt that you are the exact opposite of family-friendly. In fact, I think I haven’t been in a restaurant with worse service in a long time. Your staff at the front is very rude and unpleasant. If it wasn’t because my kids were hungry, I would’ve left right away.
And, contrary to what you said in your first sentence, I don’t think you appreciate my feedback since your entire response is defensive and your...
Read moreThe quality of food in this restaurant isn't bad compared to the price. However, the experience on Valentine's day was horrible. We avoided the busiest time and got there at around 7:30 PM. The place was still busy so that we were patiently waiting to get our foods. However, it took total of 1 hour and 20 minutes to get all our foods.
1st menu among 4 came out 40 minutes after. it was THREE pieces of sashimi. and it took 20 minute to get 1 roll and an extra 20 more minutes to get other 2 rolls. 1 order came out completely different, as it said it comes with Unagi. However, there was none. Their answer was "it is actually Unagi sauce not Unagi :)". Well, there is a HUGE difference in those 2 expressions. and, if you already knew, you need to update your menu in order not to cause any confusion. When I was finally mad and asked the server why our order is so late (other tables that people came in later started getting their foods), her answer was great. She said "You order special rolls so it is taking longer". Longer means 1 hour and 20 minutes? also, who would like to order special dish if they deserve twice the amount of wait time with extra cost. The service was horrible. No plan on going back.
If you ever read review here, you need to work on your working orders. you have 2 kitchens and they don't seems to be working together (one makes only sushi and don't care if other orders getting late vice versa). And, at least try controlling the order from Skipthedishes. We saw more than 12 delivery guys in and out while it took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get our foods. At last, your servers need to be trained better. We didn't see a singer server who brings the food to a table without going back into the kitchen to cross check and talk to each other for...
