Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters - Calgary Farmers' Market West — Restaurant in Calgary

I, unfortunately, don't know what the hoopla is about. My family stopped by to try their donuts and were left greatly disappointed. We tried the vanilla sprinkle, red velvet, cereal and milk, and the churro with a small tea.

First thing that stood out was that it was $23. That is a bit steep, but I didn't think much of it as long as the donuts were good.

Sadly, that wasn't the case. The presentation was nice, but the flavors weren't there. The red velvet tasted like it was made by someone who had never actually had red velvet cake before. It was super heavy on the citrus and that flavor should not be there. Also, the cream cheese filling tasted salty. You know a donut is bad when dad won't even eat it. The rest of the donuts, I would describe as below average. My daughter didn't eat her cereal and milk donut, so it joined the red velvet in the trash. The churro and sprinkle donuts got eaten, but I couldn't help but think of the two fallen soldiers that didn't come back that day.

Anyway, just be prepared when choosing these donuts. Like an ex wife, they have a shiny exterior, but leave you feeling a little dead inside.

Customer service was fine. The drip coffee had a weird taste that was hard to swallow. I only drank it for the caffeine. It wasn't the milk/cream; it was the unique coffee blend you have. I ordered just coffee with cream. My daughter ordered coffee black and it had the same taste. She threw hers out. My wife tried it and gagged. The taste was a strange fruit or berry taste. Please don't assume coffee drinkers are into those exotic flavour blends. Keep it simple. Also, your price was outrageous. I only bought the coffee because I didn't look for another place in the market that sold coffee. I used to love going to Phil & Sebastian, today I was at the Farmers Market off 16th stopped to get a coffee and asked if they had soy milk, I was told no they only carry almond and oat milk (I can have neither sadly) I asked why they were not carrying soy milk any longer and wow did I get attitude. Whoa, I don't know who trained those staff members but glowering at me for asking a question rude! I suppose they could be practicing to be "Karen" when they grow up so perhaps the training is going well! I shall tell everyone about the staff at Phil & Sebastian!
