I've been regularly dining at Royal Paan for over a decade, having tried almost everything on their menu and I was OVERJOYED 😊when they opened their Northwest Country Hills location which is nowhere near as busy as their Northeast Castleridge location.😊 I like not having to wait for a table for Calgary's most popular Indian🇮🇳 food/restaurant.
One thing I'm not happy 🙁with is that a few years ago they started reducing the serving sizes and really increasing their prices, and stopped giving me a second bowl of sambar for free. 🙁 (The sambar bowls are smaller too) So now I cannot afford to go & eat there as often as I used to! 🙁
While Royal Paan is not as good as it used to be, and the food is not as good, as cheap, nor as abundant as the food in India🇮🇳 (In India the sambar is bottomless, much like Chinese🇨🇳 restaurants have bottomless tea, and European🇪🇺 restaurants have unlimited bread); ROYAL PAAN IS STILL 🇨🇦CALGARY'S BEST OPTION FOR 🇮🇳INDIAN FOOD AND ALSO 🇨🇦CALGARY'S BEST OPTION FOR VEGETARIAN FOOD. The food at Royal Paan is still tastier then other 🇨🇦Calgary 🇮🇳Indian restaurants and other vegetarian restaurants in 🇨🇦Calgary, and their food prices are better than average as far as vegetarian restaurants go in Calgary.🇨🇦
Service-wise this Country Hills location sometimes feels like it is understaffed, especially when you are dining with a large group.
Royal Paan as a restaurant chain, should also smarten up, fix & update their main website, and also create a separate vegan menu for vegans so vegans don't have to ask too many questions and all confusion can be avoided on all sides. Almost everything Royal Paan makes and serves can be veganized, so more people could try everything on the menu that...
Read moreThe worst restaurant in Calgary in terms of Customer service. We heard about the food being good so opted for this restaurant. We came to Calgary after 2yrs and wanted to have dinner together with our family and went to this restaurant. The Incharge denied for a table of 11 people including kids.He completely denied that he can’t join 2 tables because of govt. rules ( that was during lockdown) and then we asked him there is currently no restriction for a group to dine together. When he was asked for the reason he started making some pointless excuses it’s gonna block the way (which was not at all possible) etc. Finally after 20min of all of us standing and such poor customer service we were given a big table for all of us.We were happy but soon a female server gave us menu and told that we have only 30min to order food and leave the restaurant. That was so ridiculous of them. They should have already told us before wasting our so much time and till then our kids starting crying and getting cranky. I was really surprised at them and feeling pity on the business owner who has invested money in this restaurant to run a business and the staff is least bothered and just ruining the potential customers. We immediately left the restaurant and one of the customer who were watching us from a long time felt bad and came outside the restaurant to meet us and also suggested another Indian restaurant.Even they told that the customer service is poor but food is good. So guys when u go to this restaurant don’t have any high hopes in terms of customer service. They don’t have right attitude...
Read more1 star for staff, not attentive at all we had to ask for water, plates everything there was no problem activeness neither the staff was available at the counter after serving us so for even smallest thing we had to get up ring the bell and request the item.
idli was not cooked well at all my 4 years old and my other 2 little nieces rejected it as it was half cooked.
sambhar had no salt and was cold.
we usually go to falcon location and expected similar service and food quality but we were disappointed.
simple french fries at falcon location is much different than this location upon asking server said yes because at falcon we get it from franchisor and here we buy it from wholesale lol! How is it possible to serve totally different product and quality under the same banner at 2 different location with very close proximity.
Upon showing displeasure to the male server he apologized and said “ I gave you the plates when you asked for it! Lol come on you gave us all the food but didn’t realize that we need plate to eat that food? Have you seen any restaurants where you need to ask for plates after receiving the food?
server did not charge us for idli and gave us 10% discount on our overall bill but that’s not the point here I appreciate his gesture but this could simply be have been avoided by being little bit more welcoming and pro active.
Overall we were disappointed to see the quality of of service going downhill at...
