Pho Van Vietnamese Noodle House — Restaurant in Calgary

I stopped by to have a quick lunch prior to visiting one of my patients. I ordered my favourite beef satay noodle as usual. I would give 3.5 stars out of 5, good but not outstanding.

Anyway, I had the worst service ever in my life. I was humiliated and treated like a homeless guy. I want to give 0 star if I could.

There was a young college couple who came in for take-out and they had an issue with payment. They tried all of their cards, did not go through, ended up paying with cash. I finished my food and tried to pay with my credit card which paid off early this week. The machine showed decline message. And I tried my debit card but the machine showed the same message. I was absolutely sure there was enough money in my debit card since today was my pay day (all the AHS employee should know). I was doubting if the magnets on those cards were damaged. So I inserted one of the cards into the pay machine but didn't work. ALL OF SUDDEN, A MIDDLE AGE LADY WALKED IN AND STARTED TALKING IN CHINESE TO ME. (I DONT SPEAK CHINESE BY THE WAY). SHE EVEN SAID "NO MONEY, NO FOOD".

I scrolled through some of reviews. I support local businesses. I know how hard for small business owners to survive in this unprecedented time. They don't have big suppliers so their variable expense fluctuate depending on economy. I do believe small restaurants should increase prices on their food. But I do not believe that customer(s) can be treated like I was.

This is an incredible and authentic restaurant with the most delightful owner. We were traveling through Calgary on vacation and we were incredibly impressed with the food. The first things we had were the grilled chicken and grilled pork chop rice dishes. They use high quality white rice and the meats are both seasoned and grilled to perfection. We then had their beef bánh mì which was outstanding. Bread perfectly warmed (crispy on the outside and soft on the inside) with a refreshing combination of cucumber, pickled carrots and cilantro along with delicious grilled beef. Beef was well seasoned and tender. We enjoyed a side of their spring rolls which were delicious. I’m not sure how we managed to find the room but we also had some fried rice and it was spectacular. It had so much flavor and it was both light but complex. Definitely not your typical fried rice.

We were chatting with the owner and she is so friendly. Throughout our conversation we could tell she is passionate about cooking and the quality of the meal we had spoke volumes. A lot of the sauces are made in-house and she actively takes part in the prep work and cooking. The neighboring table was a previous regular who moved out of the area yet travelled back to specifically to have a meal here. I can understand this as I now want to plan for layovers at YYC so we can at least grab a bite here. This ranks as one of the best meals...

I usually don’t like to post negative reviews on any businesses, but I’m making an exception for tonight. I ordered pho soup with some extra meat from Skip when it arrived. I opened it and found nothing but raw meat. I called to let them know about the mistake as I understand these things can happen, but I was met with someone on the phone who is extremely rude and told me when I order meat. I need to call the restaurant and have it cooked properly and people like me are stupid so now I’m going to share everything I would not recommend eating here. It’s absolutely disgusting and they’re stupidity makes them even worse. I strongly don’t recommend eating here. Anyone who would answer their phone and say that to a customer ordering from Skip the dish that they need to call the restaurant in order to have their meat cooked should not be in charge of serving anyone meals my kids tonight did bite into the meat. Luckily, I caught them before they got really deep into it. I am disgusted and appalled by this restaurant and their lack Care I truly believe that the person that made this meal should not be able to be around food. I will be dealing with Alberta health services...
