I'm not a fan of poke- which is weird because I love sushi, still trying to figure this one out- except for the veggie poke at saVeg, a pure veg resto (order at the counter, super casual) inside Heaven's Fitness. Try it, you'll love it, and say "yes" when the sweet woman behind the counter asks if you'd like it spicy.
Edited to update- it's now 2 years later and the world has changed in horrible ways, but last night I got takeout from saVeg and it was outstanding. They have an outstanding system for managing takeout orders where you walk to the little window on the 6 Street side and ring the bell (button adjacent to window) and the nice person inside brings you your order. No need for a car, very pedestrian-priority and I wish every place had the ability to have something similar. Anyway, the food was WOW! Especially the lentil pancakes- I could eat these every day, they're crispy and savoury and the accompanying sauce is dense with flavour- this was the star of the meal but everything was delicious. We also got the spicy "chicken," the house special with tofu and sweet potato, and two slices of banana bread and swapped white rice for brown. These are not only vegan but also very authentic Korean flavours and is going into my regular rotations. All this food was $48 with tax and tip but we ordered more than we needed (could have got two pancakes instead of three, could have got one banana bread instead of two). Ample servings and fantastic creative Korean vegan food, and they're open for takeout and delivery AND are open for dinner until 8p...
Read moreWe ate here for breakfast. It was good overall. I loved the dumplings. The Korean pancake looked good too. I definitely recommend adding one or both on as a side. I do recommend coming here but I have a feeling the lunch/dinner is better. The people working were all super nice and pleasant. The cafe is cozy and comfortable.
The Eggs Benedict was good but I think it needed some seasoning or a kick. Also the hollandaise wasn't hot so the whole dish felt cold. The breakfast burrito was average but didn't have any spice really. I would love to see some more Korean influence on the breakfast because I bet it would be so delicious. I've been a subscriber of Cheap Lazy Vegan for years and expected a little more of Rose's personality and spice in there. (Disclaimer: I am a chef so I'm harder on food than the...
Read moreI was in Calgary about 48 hours for work recently and came here twice in that span. I had the vegan bibimbap and then also the vegan bulgogi/korean bbq sandwich. Both are awesome. Really friendly and cozy environment and no you do not have to be a gym member to drop in and get yourself a snack sometime. Will definitely be back. Completely vegan friendly cafe. Interior is a bit tacky (no offence) but the staff are kind and helpful. Prices are a bit steep for what it is but everything is tasty and worth it. This is the only place in Calgary that I’ve been able to find a hawaiian style AÇAI BOWL!! very tasty and cool location on 11th. Parking is only for...
