Semantics Cafe — Restaurant in Calgary

My husband and I are trying different matcha drinks around the city & have had amazing experiences so far! I had seen a TikTok highly recommending the vanilla matcha from Semantics so I was excited to try it out. After mentioning the TikTok of the vanilla matcha to the barista - she just stared back at me from what seemed like she had never heard of a vanilla matcha before & then recommended a different drink which completely took away the excitement to try what I had came for. I wasn’t expecting her to match my happy energy but a little customer service goes a long way! That aside - the actual drink tasted like whole milk - no matcha or vanilla flavour, just whole milk so we left without finishing the drink! The whole experience was a letdown, and while it’s great to see that others are enjoying this very cool space, so our visit may have been an exception, but unfortunately we won’t...

Semantics Cafe is an absolute gem! The vibes are spot on—relaxed, welcoming, and effortlessly cool. The music setup is top-notch, with an awesome selection of records that really set the mood. You can tell they’ve put a lot of thought into the atmosphere, and it makes all the difference. Perfect spot to chill, catch up with friends, or just enjoy a good coffee with some great tunes....

I got an espresso today, (March 19, 2025), happy to see this hip space open for business. Good coffee program with beans (like so many new cafes in Calgary) from Chronicle; the house espresso is called "KEVIN" and that's part of the cheeky charm here. It's a surprisingly cavernous space in the UpTen tower and so it's not exactly "cozy" but the potential is exciting. Oh, my shot...
