Last Saturday 9/27/25 my wife and I had a dinner reservation at 8:10pm at the tower restaurant, we arrived on time and were assigned a table in the hallway to which we asked the girl who assigned us the table if they could move us to a table with a view near the window, which she told us that at the moment it was not possible but as soon as a table became free they would move us, up to that moment everything was fine. The waiter proceeded to ask us what we wanted for drinks and dinner to which we indicated that we were waiting to be moved to a table to eat since if they didn't move us to a window table we were only going to have a few drinks, to which the waiter indicated that we could order the food and when they relocated us to a table our order would be on its way, so we agreed. Up to that moment everything was fine. Ten minutes after we arrived, two tables became vacant, so we asked again. The receptionist told us they were going to clean them so we could move to another table. Another 20 minutes passed and no response. We asked again, and they told us one of the tables had been reserved for six people. We waited another 10 minutes and still hadn't received any response from the reception desk. Furthermore, they had assigned the vacant tables to new guests, which made us quite angry since we had been waiting for 50 minutes. Our dinner arrived at 8:50 p.m., but we told the waiter that we were only paying for the drinks and not for dinner, since they never relocated us to another table. He told us to go speak to the receptionist since he didn't have the authority to move us, but there were tables available near the window. We tried again, and this time the girls told us they would have to speak to the waiter in our area to see if he was okay with moving us since it was his area (the receptionists tried to blame the waiter for the delay by not moving us). We returned to our table and told the waiter what they had told us, which surprised him and he had no answer for. We told him we wanted to leave, but that we would only pay for the dinner since we hadn't touched our dinner. We ordered because they promised to move us to a table with a view. The waiter told us it wasn't possible, but that he would speak to his supervisor. The supervisor was very kind and explained to us that the tables in the restaurant are not reserved, and that the receptionists assign you tables when you arrive based on availability. They can also move us as they become available, but that it's not guaranteed. So we proceeded to tell him everything that happened, also that we were not bothered by the wait but that they caused us to have an expectation and they assigned tables to new customers who had just arrived when we had already been waiting for 50 minutes. At the end of the story, the manager, after listening to us and our waiter, went to speak with the receptionist and they assigned us one of the available tables (although there were 2 or 3 tables available). In short, the views are spectacular, 100% with the service of the manager and the waiter. However, the restaurant should take measures with the receptionists since the same thing that happened to us happened to two other couples who arrived later, and they were also complaining about...
Read moreA very upsetting experience. On January 3, 2025 at around 1:00 pm, I took my friends, which were visiting from France to the Calgary Tower. We were having a nice experience until we decided to go upstairs to the small cafeteria to buy some drinks. My friend took the only standing menu that was displayed on top of the bar counter and brought it with him to the "order here" section of the cafeteria to place his order. Then one of the servers (I think the most senior one) scolded him for taking the only menu available, telling him in an extremely rude way that he had to left the menu on the bar counter because other customers would need it. My friend took the menu because he was not going to memorize what he wanted and second because there was no other clients at that time that needed the menu. However, the point here is that the server in question scolded him in a very humiliating way as if my friend were a child that needed to be disciplined. My friend was a tourist trying to have a nice time in the city and the server made her responsibility to give him hard time. In fact, it was the second time she was rude to him. Needless to say, we left immediately and went to a downtown restaurant. I would recommend tourists to avoid the Calgary tower cafeteria because you may be treated like an ill-behaved kid that needs to be punished. The Calgary tower administration should address this situation starting by 1. have more than one menu at the cafeteria, it is unacceptable that the cafeteria at a premier tourist attraction as the Calgary tower pretends to be have just one menu, I can’t believe the Calgary tower doesn’t have access to a printer and a computer to print more menus (the menu was just one page inside a cheap acrylic displayer). 2. Educate the staff on the proper way to treat customers and emphasize the importance of tourism for the development of the city of Calgary. The behavior of the staff at the Calgary tower cafeteria does not correspond to the standards the Tower pretends to have....
