I was hopeful, but overall it was ok-ish, like Denny's ok. The place was full, has approximately 25 tables give or take. Waiting about 15 minutes to be seated, no biggie. When we were seated, it took about the same before a server even acknowledged we were there and came to get drink orders. Maybe I expect too much lol, but when you seat someone....get them drinks minimum, they will be content enough to wait a bit more if they have something to sip!
Server came, my first question was about Tabasco sauce....which they have none, only Frank's! Not sure if this is only my opinion, but EVERY breakfast place should have Tabasco, especially over Frank's! Frank's is more a lunch, wings kind of thing, Tabasco is more a breakfast kind of hot sauce! Anyhow....gave our orders. Surprisingly, my husband's food came out quickly. Thankfully he ordered pancakes along with his meal because my meal didn't come out for another 10 to 15 minutes after! Toast getting cold while I waited for my meal, ate pancakes as I was hungry so my meal was mostly a waste by time it came as I had my share of pancakes.
I dont know if this is their normal thing, but I asked for my hashbrowns crispy, figured they would be fried up on the flat top....but seems like they did a nice crispy dip in the deep fryer.....not how hashbrows should be done! Maybe they were in a hurry because my food order was messed up and they decided to dunk them in the fryer? Or maybe they always do that? Not sure but they weren't good!
And seasoning?? I don't understand how any place can cook food without seasoning it....even a little! Nothing on any of our food. Hard to salt deep fried hashbrowns, just falls off.
My husband said the coffee was good. We got the white chocolate oreo pancakes, and they were good! Sweet, but not too bad, what you would expect from the sounds of the name. They offer a little thing of jam with toast, nice, but I found it way too sweet.....pure sugar! Sweeter than the white chocolate pancakes!
Overall, the service wasn't great. Couldn't tell if there were 3 or 4 servers but we only saw ours a couple of times. They have some other people buzzing around delivering food and clearing tables, some wandering like they could use something to do. Would be hesitant to go there again if I was hungry or was in any kind of rush.
The booths....has anyone else noticed that you have to be the size of a child to sit at them for a proper level? I'm not tall and the table was below my belly button level, was so low....or booth seats to high. Not sure if the chairs where better, seemed a little shorter to match the tables. Must be how tall people feel at normal seat/tables.
Food, I would go back to eat pancakes if my husband felt like pancakes, maybe try the waffles, crepes or French toast but definitely won't ever have any egg dishes with hashbrowns or anything like that. Last time I went to Denny's for breakfast, their hashbrowns and eggs were more on point with seasoning and cooking on the flat top.....not too high...
Read moreI would honestly rather give this place a 2.5 star rating but a 2 seems too harsh. I'll preface this by saying, this place is severely under staffed for a lunch rush. We didn't spend much time waiting for a seat but we waited Fourty FIVE MINUTES for our food. Fourty five minutes for breakfast is pretty long. Our waitresses were nice, one of them even warned us that it could take a while but this was pretty bad.
The food wasn't terrible. They give pretty generous portions for the amount of money you're paying. I asked for my hash to be extra crispy, which they did. It was pretty tasty but my over easy eggs looked like they were cut in half and over cooked. My boyfriend got an omelet which wasn't half bad. The refills on coffee were slow but steady. The blueberry pancakes LOOKED okay but when you lift the underside, it was pretty dark. I think the pancakes were overcooked. They were tough, weirdly chewy and dense.
Overall, not a great experience. I wouldn't be inclined to come back unless they hire more people to work in the kitchen.
Edit: This place hasn't changed anything and it seems like they're still serving things that are overly cooked and dark. I understand that the char on the toast was slight but it was still enough to give that bitter burnt flavor-- ON TOAST. A breakfast place can't get their toast right. We came back to try to give this place a redemption chance and we got a French toast stack and a junior stack. I subbed the pancake on the junior with the waffle. Honestly, the waffle wasn't bad but it's so terribly let down by the low quality syrup they serve here. The coffee is even more watered down and the juices all seem to come out of a bottle or carton. We also got a "spice up" on the home fries which is not worth the money. We got the jalapeño one and they just put some chopped pickled jalapeños on top of your crispy home fries and sog them up. I don't think I'll come...
Read morePerhaps they're still so new that they are working out the kinks. I'm surprised by the 5 star reviews as I've had some pretty good breakfast at other spots that surpass Stacked Pancake & Breakfast House.
That being said, it could have just been the dishes we ordered. So the rating is based on that experience alone. The service was fabulous and there was no shortage of someone walking around offering to top off your coffee which is nice!
My husband loves coffee and wasn't too fond of the flavour. Not sure what brew they use, but said it tasted slightly watered down. He ordered the Express breakfast with peameal bacon and rye toast with a side of pancake. The peanmeal wasn't his favorite. I tasted it and it seemed fine to me. The hashbrowns were the best part - taste like homemade fried potatoes my mom used to make so that's a win! The homemade house jam is incredibly sweet, my teeth wanted to leave my face.
I ordered the Avocado Toast with a side of fruit. I am a bit picky about my avocado toast and there are some places that do it really well. Unfortunately, this didn't hit the mark. The guacamole spread too thin on the toast so I didn't really taste it. The pico salsa was good but it was so watery to made my toast soggy. And I prefer my toast to have some crunch to it. The fruit was good and it was fresh.
The pancake was not at all what we expected. The only word I can think of is 'tough'. It was hard to cut which I thought was off and it was very dense, not light and fluffy. I thought it might just be me at first but my husband ended up saying "what's wrong with this pancake?"
I had high hopes for this new breakfast place and we don't usually have bad things to say about food, we like to eat. Perhaps it was just our choices and a different dish would have...
