California Thai (Beacon Hill) — Restaurant in Calgary

Tried the food at California Thai through SkipTheDishes delivery and pick-up. The food never disappoints and it is always flavorful and delicious!

I see a lot of people complaining about the "fishy" flavor of the classic pad thai. Despite the restaurant having amazing and delicious food with massive portions for the price, the rating is lower than it should due to a little misunderstanding with the classic and California flavour. I asked the owner about it and apparently the "classic" flavor is a seafood-based sauce.

We order food from California Thai Beacon Hill often. It never occurred to me to write a review until tonight when we were eating our meal and discussing how consistently good the food is every time. We quite often get the chicken curry, it is quite spicy, always fresh with lots of vegetables (which I like). It is a big meal and comes with your choice of rice. It is soooo good, it has a creamy coconut Thai curry sauce. The mango salad is fresh and delicious. Have also had Ho fun noodles which are very good as is the pad Thai. My son often gets the mango chicken stir fry, which is a fried battered chicken in a sweet mango sauce, he loves it. The family that runs/owns it are very sweet hard...

Based on all the positive reviews, I came here with high hopes, but left very disappointed.

The "classic" phad Thai is a mostly flavorless pile of noodles with too much fish sauce. We ordered one "medium" and one "crazy spicy" and the "hot" one was so mild I wouldn't have thought twice about feeding it to a toddler.

The ginger beef was a sugary, heavily-breaded "American-Chinese-food" dish that wouldn't be out of place in a discount food court.
