Don't judge a book by its cover. This little Somali Restaurant lured me because I was traveling with my friend who has a limited diet...but goat is on her allowed foods list. We have eaten at numerous East African restaurants in Edmonton but were traveling through Calgary and needed to find a similar restaurant. On the surface, Luubann is not in an ideal neighborhood and parking is hard to find. It is such a little unassuming dining establishment that one might think it's not worth a stop. And it's certainly not a fancy place. We would not have normally stopped there if it wasn't because of the diet of my friend. But I am so glad we did. The lady at the front was so kind and sweet. We ordered a goat and a beef and we were thrilled. And to top it all off, she brought us two soups for free. I am so glad to share this review and the five stars. We'll be back.

Food was decent. Atmosphere is not the best, tv with news about terrorist attack, general discomfort, not the most cozy place Service is a nightmare - ended up paying $5 extra because waitresses do not speaks English. They brought us a soup which we didn’t order, which was with meat - we are pescetarian(no meat), so barely touched it, but was charged anyway. The owner of the restaurant was nice, but in general experience is 3 out of 5

Had a chicken suqaar. Was okay but not tasteful as I thought. The service was very poor. Had to wait even to place the order. Didn’t bring water or asked about it so had to request. And only gave one glass of water and took back the water jar. Place was not very clean. Saw a few flies too. Not attentive to the customers. The lady was always on phone. And I asked if they have any desserts, and said no.

Nobody answers the phone and hours are not as posted on the internet. We have tried to eat here several times, even tried calling ahead to ensure they are open or to place a pick up order. Nobody answers the phone despite several calls. They also need to get a website as the hours listed online are not when they are actually open. As I am writing this on April 9th, I am sitting in their back parking lot. It says online they are open online, however it’s after noon and the door is locked and I’ve called 4 times and nobody answers. Same thing occurred on April 1st. They would get a lot more customers if they posted accurate hours online, answered their phones, and organized online take-out ordering. They seem to be living in the stone-age and must be losing a ton of business because of it. We have not tried the food before and wanted to place a large family order. After driving from the North East twice and arriving to then being closed, I’m giving up. Very frustrating.

In response to the reply: clearly whichever sign you claim is at the store is not visible or obvious as we have been to the door twice and nobody saw it. As I mentioned, investing in a website and posting actual hours on it would be good business practice, as not to waste people’s time. Another good business practice would be to have voicemail message stating that the restaurant is closed, rather than just never answering the phone all month. Very unprofessional. Also, Ramadan is the time when most restaurants, Muslim owned, make and sell a lot more food. Everyone else works and fasts so I’m not sure why that piece of information...

Drove from far and asked about chicken leg meals for me and my family and when we arrived they said they only have two chicken legs so we did take out and then we had to go somewhere else to buy dinner and takeout there was no fork no sauce as well so we had to look for forks somewhere 2 chicken leg and plain rice 42 $!!!!!! Really bad terrible so disappointing.

Update: in response to their reply to be fair and not be argumentative but I was told it came with sauce as I asked before arriving. Also I called before hand to clarify that my mother and 3 kids and myself were coming and wanted each the same specific chicken dinner we ordered and she said yes come and upon arrival were told there was not enough chicken legs for all of us after waiting a while being seated which is why we switched to take out as we were hungry and out for an occasional dinner and I needed to feed ALL of us and we did in fact ask for cutlery. I appreciate the attempt to save face but accountability is important and I dont appreciate being made to look as if I didn't cover all my bases or portray me as oblivious to what was going on. I was well aware of what I was doing and what I ordered and what I received and how the experience went. Thank you for your understanding and We would love to come and try again one day. Thank you for the...

I became a regular customer of Luubann after trying their food for the first time with my mother earlier this year. They serve a variety of proteins and vegetarian options, including goat, chicken and fish. Each meal is absolutely delicious with unwavering quality and through the food and the service, the owners really make you feel like you're home.

I was instantly transported back home upon my first experience with this restaurant and the owners. I had explained to the Mother that I had wanted to eat something light as I had been sick. After lovingly wishing me a quick recovery, she warmly said that she would take care of me and went into the kitchen.

The first plate we were served was a bowl of hot goat broth, this immediately reminded me of my grandmother's cooking z"l. I felt so much better after finishing this broth. Afterwards we were served an incredibly generous portion of stewed goat and chicken upon a bed of beautiful, fragrant rice and a side of salad with a homemade dressing. Ever since then, I have been going to their restaurant. The quality, love and intention that goes into the preparation of this incredible food has tremendous merit. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants a good home made meal, it truly is a hidden...
