I’ve been to many The Keg Steakhouse locations both in this city and various provinces and I always order the same thing - 10oz prime rib with a twice baked potato. Fair to say I know what to expect when I go to the Keg and it’s the reason I always come back is because of their unwavering consistency in good food and service.
My experience at the Signal Hill location yesterday evening came very short of quality service - I would give it zero stars if I could.
We had a reservation and were greeted and seated immediately by the hostess and we were told our waitress will come by shortly. After 15 mins not a single server came by, but there were numerous servers standing around socializing. At 20 mins, we were finally able to put in our drink order and food order. It took another 10 mins before our drinks came and 25 mins before we were even provided with water. The whiskey sour that I ordered was also missing the cherries it advertised to come with as garnish and I had to ask for it. It took so long for us to get our first round of drinks that when it came, we put in our order for the second round. We were never asked if we wanted their complimentary bread and it was never brought out.
We ordered two appetizers (the crab cake and bacon wrapped scallops). My boyfriend ordered the Keg classic which came with a salad that we asked to have come with the appetizers. I was also informed that the prime rib (which is always served medium rare and is my preference) would be served as medium so it seems like the whole roast was overcooked. We had our appetizers for 5 mins and then our mains arrived, which usually isn’t an issue, but we had no room on the table for our mains so it had to be brought back. Overall, the food was good - but the complaint I would have is that despite being tasty and still edible, the bottom of our crab cakes were burnt and the prime rib should be at medium rare. Once our food arrived, our server never came to check how everything was tasting and never came to top up our water.
This location has been opened for 3 months, so we understand that there are some things that may need to be ironed through, but all the issues in service that we had has nothing to do with it being a new location. The overall customer service was incredibly poor. There was a manager on staff, but he did nothing - you would think for a new location, a manager would walk around and engage with customers to ask about their service and ways in which improvements can be made, but there was no effort in that - he just stood around, much like the servers at...
Read moreSunday March 23rd 2025. we went to the new Keg at Signal Hill for dinner. We love going to the Keg. Our waiter was Sam he was very friendly . We ordered our appetizer which took along time to come, when it did the gal who brought it out said "plate is extremely hot be careful". The crab cakes were good, the side salad was steaming hot so we could not eat it. (umm sitting under the heat lamps too long! Our Caesar Salads arrived with our chicken , we normally got a huge Caesar salad with the chicken sliced and placed on top with grated cheese. The Keg did take this off the Menu , not sure why? Anyway, our waiter Sam said it could be done . We were looking forward to our salads with the sliced chicken breast. What we got was a plate with 1/4 the size of the salad (wilted from heat) and plunked down next to it a deep fried chicken breast, not sliced just sitting there. ! I was taken back, so was my friend we just looked at each other in shock. If this was their idea of a Chicken Caesar Salad (which they took off their menu) then the server should have said we do not offer this anymore and this is what our price will be for this $32.00 I would have ordered my 2nd favorite Prime Rib meal instead! We got our bill , for the Caesar Salad and deep fried breast of chicken, $14.00 for a 1/4 salad (wilted) and deep fried chicken breast $18.00...what the heck????? We did not finish it, I took home the 1/2 breast which still sits in my fridge which will go to compost. Come on Keg , YOU CAN DO BETTER MUCH BETTER!!!!! Presentation is Key.

Read moreWanted to try this Keg as we live closer to it than the others. We walked in around 8:30 and got a table in the lounge fairly quickly. Our server took our drink/food orders fairly quickly, however the appetizers took about 25 mins from ordering to arrive.
Then about 5 minutes after they arrive, our server informed us that our mains were also ready and asked if we wanted them brought out even though we had barely started our appetizers. We decided to have them brought out so they didn't sit under a heat lamp for 10+ minutes, and in the process decided to box up an appetizer so there was room on our table.
The food itself was okay to below average relative to other Keg restaurants so it was a bit disappointing. Appetizers were good (calamari, tuna tartare) but the mains were not. The lobster tail dinner was pretty overcooked and the steak I had was almost just a ball of steak, looking more like a small roast, so it wasn't cooked very evenly.
Then we were finished it took asking three times and about 20 minutes for our server to bring the bill. Even with a gift card covering half the meal, it still felt overpriced for what we got and didn't feel like we had our money's worth. Only upside was that the lounge seemed quiet which was nice for conversation. Will be looking to go back to the other Kegs in the city before we...
