Ate the food from this location last week as take out for the family it was so delicious we went back 2 days later for my Birthday dinner! This place is a hidden gem, the food feels like authentic Italian cuisine. If your not a pasta pizza type of person, I promise you this place will change your mind. The bruschetta was delightful. The Caprese and Feta salad were fresh and tasty. The mussels and chorizo had a nice little bite to them, the sauce was the perfect balance of flavour and richness, felt like it was a meal on its own with a good piece of bread to dip in. The fettuccine Alfredo was creamy and decadent. Butternut squash were delicious the sauce was creamy but not overly done paired nicely with the pesto creating a really nice balance. Ravioli con Aragosta was also delicious and did not disappoint. The Lasagna was on point as well and would of made Garfield envious. My kids loved it so much they were going in for 2nds. Now as for the pizzas they were so delicious, so simple but so fresh, the ingredients paired so well together. The Parma E Fungi was hands down one of the favorites! The arugula and basil were amazing. Took the pizza to a whole new level! The honey drizzle pizza had a nice sweetness to it that wasn't over powering but left you yearning for another piece it paired nicely with the almonds. The Diavolo pizza was my husbands favorite, wasnt really for me as I'm not a Calabrese Salami type of gal, but he loved it non the less. We had Tiramisu which was so tasty, the Baklava had that nice honey drenched sweetness that was cut through with a bit of a saltiness. The Creme brulee had the perfect crack to the sugared top. You know that magical feeling you get when the food and ambience is so warm and so tasty it brings you back to being a small child in moms kitchen excited about the aromas in the kitchen and a good homemade meal. The comfort of the meal and the complete bliss you feel after you eat it. That's what this place delivers. It hits that sweet culinary spot and takes you down...
Read moreWe ate here on February 26, 2022 and we were not impressed with the food but the service was good. We had the calamari and fettuccine with garlic toast. Unfortunately all 3 were very under seasoned and bland, the garlic toast actually tasted like plain white wonder bread that had been toasted and topped with margarine. We were really looking forward to this new location but it did not live up to the experience we had at the Heritage location. We hope this review is constructive as we really want this place to succeed. We will be giving it another shot because the service was good.
(Update) as of December 2022 We returned to give Toscana Mahogany another shot. We went with a group of 8. We had fettuccine garlic toast spaghetti and calamari to start. The fettuccine was better than our first experience but still didn’t impress anyone and the garlic toast still is pretty underwhelming. The spaghetti was good but the calamari wasn’t that great. The servers were nice but were very slow and repeatedly forgot waters, drinks and 2 orders of garlic toast twice. The restaurant was only half full and the had plenty of staff so we aren’t sure why the service was so slow or why so much was repeatedly forgotten. By the time we had all had our meals a few drinks each and a dessert our bill was north of $350. For the price, food and service we still aren’t impressed. I did add a start for the improved flavor of...
Read moreUpdated: The lunch menu offers five star value at only $16 for a steak sandwich with salad on the side. The steak was tender and generously portioned though under seasoned and paired with a muted sauce. The salad was covered in a very basic balsamic and parts were so cold they felt pulled right from the back of a fridge. Although I didn’t try it, the Fior di latte is from Canada and not Italy. So I would say 5 stars for lunch value and again 4 stars for the food.
Original review of dinner:
Pro tip: Order pickup on the website and save 15%. On the other hand, you can’t call in a pickup order, which was odd given how the restaurant wasn’t that full on a Thursday night.
This restaurant falls solidly in the 4 star category food wise, with a higher rating for the friendly and welcoming service.
These are hard times in the restaurant industry due to food inflation, and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the lamb shank portion for the reasonable price. That alone is a meal in itself, coming with an overly salty Demi glacé sauce. The potatoes were good, the carrots were somewhat undercooked, and the garlic bread just average with two small slices costing $4.
For a nearby dinner I vastly prefer Chairman’s Wednesday night special, but Toscana is way more relaxed, and it’s lunch specials seem like a steal so I may come back and update...
