If you are planning an event please dont go with Aramark as it will exclude ppl with dietary restrictions. :(
almost all ucalgary events are catered by here so I emailed them to ask about the dish being served at a campus event. I didnt think there would be success as I also contacted about my faculty gala and no response. if its a non food focused event I just dont eat but lately my friends have been wanting to go to the dinners and I find it too awkward to of if I cant eat as the event is literally a dinner so I stay home since Aramark never responds. I have been too many events like mentor networking night where I had to sit there and have ppl constantly ask me why im not eating since I wanted to be there for my mentee but guess what Aramark never responded lol.
most recently they canceled my email ticket with this
Reason: No Response Close notes: spam
is it spam to ask about dietary restrictions?
It's very hard to eat with dietary restrictions yet they never help at all. I am only asking if the dish is suitable not to make anything special so I can decide if I can go as it's very awkward to sit there with no food if it's a food focused event. This is not the first time. I have asked about other events and they dont respond. I have asked about the dining center and they don't respond.
I went to a gala at my friends uni during the summer and they emailed back and let me know what I could have. I recently attended a club event that was at a hotel instead of being catered here and they responded to my email and I was able to go- idk why Aramark chooses to not even respond they just ignore. I have missed many dinners and galas thanks to them being catered by the university or had to do the awkward why im not eating with multiple ppl if I had to go to the event if it was for a competition or volunteering.
The biggest joke is when I was in first year my mom wanted to get me on a dining plan and we found this in their faq: "Students with specific concerns are also invited to meet with the culinary team to discuss their dietary requirements and available options while eating at The Landing. Contact hello@aramarkucalgary.com." - they never responded lol. They just pretend that they accommodate.
Worst uni dining...
Read moreThe Landing has suffered a severe decline in quality within the most recent 3 months or so in terms of both food quality and service. The food quality used to be extremely high consistently and there used to be a great variety in rotations but now its just the same cheap station repeated every few days. When the dining hall does have a good station in rotation they are often intentionally undersupplied, likely to prevent food waste, and replaced with the most bizarre substitutes like beef stroganoff served with white rice or chicken curry served with mashed potatoes.
Stations close an hour into being served and even the always-available substitutes have dwindled greatly as breads, cereals, and pizza are often out of stock and they don't bother to refill them or make more. Sometimes I go during mid-day hours and sometimes I go closer to the meal's closing time but the problem is consistent throughout the day and throughout each of the 3 meals served.
The staff used to be nice and accommodating but I have seen management talk to the people serving food and scolding them for serving too much. The problems are incredibly transparent and the times I have tried to leave feedback on a napkin board about such it has been removed while others have been left up. There aren't pens anymore and you can only leave feedback via QR code now so I'm certain they don't care about that either anymore.
This is all such a shame since the dining hall used to be incredible for university food standards but it's just absolutely not worth the money anymore. I understand that food is expensive but this is a completely ridiculous response that absolutely butchered a place I used to think very highly of. Now I have to consider if I should gamble there being food they have as listed that I would eat or if I'm just better off leaving a bunch of unused swipes and just make my own food that I know...
Read moreNot sure where to start with this place. Only been here less than 4 months and I feel bad for students who have to continue to eat here. Every single day I leave the dining center I feel hungry and malnourished. Someone who used to struggle with disordered eating in the past, this place does not help at all. The staff hand out minuscule portion sizes, they are unfriendly, if you lose your student card you are basically turned away and refused entry for food. There is very little option on a given day. Only caters for middle eastern, asian, indian. Not impressed. Food in general bland, stir fry everyday is not acceptable (may I add there is the same 3 sauces too) The furniture has hairs and food on them. With covid19 being so relevant in our lives, there should be extra caution given for students for our safety. For breakfast, the staff get annoyed when you ask for eggs, even though the pre-made eggs taste like actual vomit. The pizza is under done and I have never witnessed curry on fish before? Why do they do that? It does not taste nice. Glad to be leaving this place. Wish I did not have to do the meal plan and instead buy groceries where I know my digestive system...
