Straight up will never come back to this place again. As my friends and I (a group of four) were just about to enjoy a snack before we headed out to enjoy the rest of my friend’s birthday, the waitress came over to our table saying that we’d ordered “too little,” that her boss was “pissed,” and he was staring at us as if we’d wronged him. She’d told us to “just remember for next time.” What does that even mean, “remember for next time”? As in, remember to order more, and pay more than what you originally wanted to? It certainly seemed like it. This comment was made moments after she’d just placed the meal in front of my friend. There were only two groups that were in the establishment at the time; it wasn’t like we were taking up space that could be used for other customers (ones that they obviously don’t have because of the service they offer). It’s one thing to try and push sales, but to rudely comment, or even argue with the customer about what they order as well as the quantity of what they order is crossing the line. We ended up leaving the place, not paying for our meal (obviously) after the horrendous act they did of kicking two of our friends out when they hadn’t even done anything that would harm the establishment. So if you’d like to be told what to eat, by all means, have...

In the past few years, the Korean Fried Chicken scene has exploded in Calgary. But, no matter what, we always head back to our favourite: Yum Yum BBQ in Pacific Place.

Price is amazing! For under $14, you get a 3 piece meal (your choice of flavour), crinkle cut fries and a pop.

Portion size is consistent. Nice big juicy pieces of double-fried chicken. Some places offer 5 piece meals but we like these whole pieces more.

Taste is incomparable. I like the spicy chicken (no sauce - dry spice) because it’s got just the right amount of kick. Sometimes it’s spicier (yay) than other times, but it’s always good. Husband usually gets the shallot chicken, which has a nice savoury and sweet sauce and shallots on top. This time he got the signature Yum Yum sauce chicken and still thought it was good. Their chicken isn’t as saucy as other places (which we like)!

If you like crinkle cut fries like I do, then these are perfect! They also have twist potatoes (spiral-cut potato on a stick) which is also fun to eat!

We tried the beef bulgogi ttoek-bokki (rice noodles) this time and found it tasty, but still love the chicken more. Lots of people around us for other dishes and chicken, but the 3 piece meal is filling enough!

We’ve tried the other locations, but honestly, this one...

Location: 36th Street NE.

Edit: The chef took the time to speak with us and explain the changes and why they occured. Each location has different owner. Unfortunately, this location they don't offer the cheese seasoning on fries anymore and the reason they don't offer it as a side is because the seasoning is very fine (if I understood correctly) so if they provided it as a side it wouldn't be a lot. The Chicken flavoring has also changed because they make their own now, previously they had imported flavoring (again, if I understood correctly). Our server also came over to explain better and apologized for any miscommunication. Server was very apologetic and we understood this wasn't her fault nor the chef but a decision of ownership.

Original: Yum Yum use to be my go-to recommended place for fried chicken but the Chicken isnt flavoured like it use to be. They also changed the seasoning of their fries and don't offer the cheese seasoning anymore. We saw that it was still on the menu for the potatoe chips, so we asked for a side of cheese seasoning and that we would pay for. Server responded that they don't "do customization" and...

This was my first time here, and I wanted to try the spicy chicken and fries to compare it to Jollibee. It is a very cute and clean little restaurant, not very busy as it was an hour before close on Sunday night. We ordered the chicken to go, and it was about 15 minutes from ordering until the food was ready. There were also chairs available to wait. The chicken was super fresh, crunchy, juicy and very delicious! There was a very unique seasoning in the breading which I still can't place. The spiciness took awhile to kick in, but was definitely there! The fries were plain, but I love the fact that they were crinkle cut, which is hard to find. The gravy was very small, but was well seasoned and had more depth to it than I expected. My only critique is that there was a mystery dark meat piece that was very fatty, and the breast pieces are quite small breaded chunks, though they are very meaty. As compared to Jollibee spicy chicken - Yum Yum takes the prize in my opinion! I also love that they have white meat chicken, which Jollibee does not.

This is one of the spots I visit for that delicious, tasty, and juicy chicken crave. The seats here are pretty comfy, but can feel cramped due its size, and it can get very busy, but when it's busy expect the service to be a little slow. I always order their yum yum chicken in special sauce, and a pork bulgogi poutine with a side of rice bowl while watching korean and american music videos. Get those hands dirty on those chicken because it's worth it. The chicken was moist, yummy batter soaked in yum yum special sauce providing a balance of sweet, spicy, and a hint of tang. The poutine was also amazing and you may request to make it extra spicy. A great infusion of canadian/korean dish. I highly recommend this place~!
