Our family of 6 was there this morning on Easter Sunday, 21 April 2019.
My daughter and I reached the restaurant at 10.05am. There wasn’t any queue at the entrance and the restaurant was not packed. It was less than 1/3 occupied.
There was a Caucasian family of 6, in front of us. We waited for about a while outside and there was no one attending to us at the check-in counter. We didn’t see the usual check-in staff anywhere close to the door or even when we step into the restaurant.
She was no where in sight. After my husband parked the vehicle and entered the restaurant she wasn’t there either.
We and the other family went in together and sat ourselves at different empty tables around the back of the restaurant.
Both our table waited for a while at least 5 minutes.
We have to signal and approach the serving staffs at the restaurant, before we could get the menu and our tea/ drinks. The same for the other family.
After the tea was served to us, in under 3 minutes, my table was approached by your front check-in staff- Maggie. She stormed over fumingly, her face was stern looking and her manners wasn’t friendly and definitely unapproachable.
She ‘apologized’ to us and told us we had to wait outside. The tone of the apology was more of saying “get the heck out as you were not seated by me”. She demanded that we stepped out the restaurant and get a number.
Maggie mentioned in a reprimanding manner that we can’t just sit ourselves down and our table has already been reserved.
How would we know that the table was taken, when there were no reservation sign on the table? By the way, we have always been told that: there is no reservation for the restaurant and it is on a first come first serve setup.
At this moment (10:05 am - 10:25 am) the restaurant was not full.
We didn’t argue or rebutted her. We were very cooperative. We observed there were two groups waiting outside as we get our number. About 5 minutes later we were asked to be seated in the restaurant.
When we were at the front counter, before stepping in, my husband asked her why she didn’t speak to us nicely when she wanted us to changed our seats.
She defended herself saying she apologized already but this is really our (customers) fault and went on and on to explain that our table had a reservation and the waitress fault (not to tell us to wait outside).
Her tone was very defensive.
We asked her why she didn’t asked the other table that came in together with us. Her reply was : “ There’s no reservations on that table and that she needed to join two tables together”.
We were upset that we were asked to stepped out and we are even more embarrassed by her tone. As we stepped, we could see other customer looking at us and so did the other table/ family that walked in with us. It’s so humiliating.
My suggestions:
Your restaurant might want to consider having reserved signage placed on table that are reserved
Give good customer service training to your staffs, especially Maggie. She needs to learn to stay calm, speak well, be more flexible and think customer service and NEVER forget her good manners and Smile! 😊
I frequent this restaurant a lot and I’ve never seen her smile before.
Have more servers. Your restaurant is seriously understaffed and overworked. Your serving staffs don’t look happy when serving and they seem really tired.
She did explain her duty as a host but I would rather she understand a good service to defuse potential conflicts. When we were cooperating and stood up, she could have easily said “wait, perhaps your group could hold on a minute while I get things organized and seat you at a different table”. Done. Simple. No drama.
I’m hope to see more improvements in your customer service. Your restaurant has the worst performance within the Taste of Asia group chain of...
Read moreArguably the most disappointing and angry restaurant in all my time in Calgary. First of all, the price is the same as the little sheep next door, the variety of dishes is small, the meat dishes are normal, the vegetables are not fresh, the chrysanthemum chrysanthemum and spinach are dry, the dishes are not washed, and there is dirt above. The second order of steamed ribs is frozen, so the meat and blood will come up before it's cooked. The most important thing is that the service is ridiculously bad! I don't think the service has ever been so bad! The food is slow to say, when the waiter comes to the bottom of the pot, directly pour the soup into the pot, the hot soup directly splashed on the face, the waiter serves the food directly on your face to go, really not exaggerated is to put your face, chopsticks can not take that. Do not know whether Guangdong or Hong Kong aunt waiter has been chatting beside, called hello ten times, hello trouble to take a piece of paper to pour a glass of water can not hear, immersed in their own chat... I ended up pouring the water, collecting the dishes... And here comes the most outrageous... Finally forced me to give 15% tip, said that what eat hot pot must be mandatory tip. I didn't like it, they called the manager, I said I poured the water, I collected the dishes why should I tip? The waiters ignored me... I wouldn't answer even if I called. The manager hesitates and says I'm not even charging you extra... I said you don't wash dishes, there is dirt how can I eat? The manager just told me to get out... I'm a fool... Such is the attitude of the manager towards the guests. It is ridiculous that such a person can be the manager...
Read more2 star for overall experience mostly because they forgot about our Peking duck , since we were hungry we ate everything else before we needed to remind them about the duck… I also paid with a 20% tip before the duck showed up… the food was great but when the main course isn’t there it kinda puts a different experience “on the table”. The duck showed up after their closing time so we felt rushed to try finishing out meal though when it’s only the duck portion of our dinner and again being full from everything else we felt more pressure to eat and leave because every couple minutes someone was checking in to take away plates/dishes … like let us feel relaxed because you made a mistake… we don’t need 3-4 different people hovering around … seriously there was at least 2 people standing next to our table… now as I type this it’s becoming more annoying of the experience there. I better not write anymore so I’ll leave it as this for a review. Good was great, service was not great at all.
Ugh 😑 we needed to ask for a few seats to be cleaned , the tea pot was dirty with large stains in top so thinking it’s not fresh tea is easy to assume. The table next to up was leaving but they left the huge mess on the floor the rest of the evening even after that group left … of course I was fine with the mess being caused by a child, but come on… you can clean that up so it’s not left there soaking into the floor the next hour or more. You just can’t vacuum that up and expect to get everything out without a deep clean.
I’m dropping this to 1 star since it’s needed to post. I can’t imagine how the kitchen is, The way to the washroom wasn’t so clean and definitely...
