Choun is a hidden gem in Ontario. We stumbled upon this family owned restaurant in Cambridge that specializes in Southeast Asia cuisine, namely Laotian takes on neighbouring regional cuisines like Thai, Korean, and Japanese dishes. The menu is diverse but shows intentionality. The Asian barbecue ribs were sweet-savoury and served with a tasty kimchi cabbage coleslaw was tasty. My ramen-loving nephew devoured his miso ramen. Portion sizes are generous. The standout dish for us was definitely the laksa. It was creamy and spicy and flavourful. Unlike other laksas I've tried it wasn't watery like a soup but was more of a richer texture with a tolerable spice level, plenty of tender chicken pieces and lots of vegetables in the broth. Sara was so sweet and brought my nephew to meet the chef and kitchen crew. She also brought us complimentary Asian style churros. She offered great insight into the menu as well as her brother Bobby's journey into this business and his intention of highlighting their Laotian heritage. The space is cozy. Decor and plating choices are on point. I was describing to a friend how at one point, a random Christmas song came on the playlist (it was March but snowing outside). With the warmth of family around me, my belly satiated from the delicious meal, it did feel a lot like Christmas in that one moment. Truly amazing food (I still dream about that laksa) and awesome staff made for a very memorable dining experience that we look forward to repeating the next time we are in the Cambridge area.

This place was kind of hard to find because it was hidden on the right side of the building on a ramp. The outside had a nice clean look to it and the inside was comfy and inviting. The only downside to the restaurant is that the door let in a lot of the cold November air even though one of the three or so doors were open. There was a wide variety of food and drink selections but only one dessert option. The bubble tea had many flavors but did not come in the traditional plastic cup with a cover on it when dining in. My wife and I got the shoyu ramen ($18) and miso ramen ($19), both offered with chicken or pork. We also got 4 Lao spring rolls for $7; the spring rolls tasted pretty good and not too oily and although the two ramens looked similar, they had a different taste between them. The broth was different and I honestly prefer the shoyu flavor over the miso flavor. The noodles had good texture and the broths for both were not too salty. The staff were few but friendly. The atmosphere was basic and modern but the benches seem to be a bit too high for the tables, so we preferred to sit on the chairs instead. Overall, I recommend giving this a try if you are in the neighborhood and want to dine in a place with a cozy environment (just bring a sweater or jacket if you go during cold weather).

I’ve been wanting to write a review for a while now because I’ve been going to this wonderful restaurant for about a month now. I just want to start off by acknowledging Sydney, who is an amazing young lady that is part of this wonderful family restaurant. She is so warm and welcoming and kind. She is definitely an integral part of the business and makes me feel so welcomed each time I visit. Thank you Sydney for being such a sweetheart. Let me talk about the food , one word…WOW!!! I first visited this lovely place when I was feeling under the weather and I wanted some soup. It sure made me feel better. I had the wonton, which is homemade wontons and it’s one of the best soups I’ve ever had. Since then I’ve also had the spicy Tom yum soup, which I highly recommend too. Today I had the shrimp po boy sandwich and Asian pear salad and oh my gosh so delicious. EVERYTHING is absolutely perfect 😍 🤩 I can’t wait to go back regularly because this is honestly one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. ❤️ it!!!!

Truly a hidden gem in the small town of Hespeler. This location is situated in such a charming and aesthetic part of downtown; it's right by the Grand River and beside other local vendors and small restaurants. The food itself was great. In the two times I've been there so far every one of their dish has consistently met or exceeded my expectations. The fried rice, even without any protein, was full of flavour and a great dish to have the next day as leftovers. The bulgogi hamburger was well seasoned and I loved the hamburger sauce. Service on both occasions was very timely and pleasant. They had a working knowledge of the daily specials and any dishes that were sold out. I cannot wait recommend this place to more visitors coming by my city, and I hope it gets the attention it truly deserves.

We hosted a milestone birthday at Choun recently. Sarahlynn was amazing to work with, she was always available to work through the party details. The actual event went off without a hitch. We were allowed to come in early and set up. The place was exactly as we had asked. The food was amazing as usual and was more than enough for our guest. Sarahlynn and her team made our guests feel so welcome and looked after all their needs. The kitchen staff and servers were also on point and made our event memorable. We were able to use the karaoke machine and we had a space for dancing. It was a great evening and we are grateful to the Choun Kitchen staff.

Very tasty Asian kitchen on Queen St. It's a little difficult to find, as it has a side entrance just off of the sidewalk. Mom's Soup was very delicious and a great starter. The fresh spring rolls are large and easily could be shared between two people. The accompanying dipping sauces were not overpowering and were a nice compliment to the rolls. The Bulgogi Burger was a real treat for lunch. The patty was excellent and the burger glaze was sweet and the kimchi mayo was an excellent topping. I will definitely get it again! I highly recommend trying this little hidden gem out. You won't be disappointed with the food!
