It has definitely changed since COVID. This was the first time back since everything has really opened back up since COVID shut everything down and it was very disappointing. The menu has changed, it used to be an actual menu and now it's just a laminated piece of paper and not done well since it goes onto the back with only a few things such as meat platters and sides so no matter what you are forced to look at the back to find a side if you get a meal. They have removed items from the menu that were good such as their whisky apples. The mac and cheese side was watery and it was similar to eating Kraft dinner just watery and the pasta was overcooked so that didn't help. The Southern fried chicken had no flavour to it at all, slightly breaded but no flavour, although the chicken was cooked well. The coleslaw was good although a little watery for my liking but had the right seasonings and flavours. The meatloaf was good just a small thin portion compared to other restaurants. The iced tea tasted powdery like the mix ratio in their bar wasn't correct and it was too much powder mix, also if you are going to let one table know that the iced tea isn't refillable like pop then let ALL your tables know since the table in front of us ordered iced tea and weren't told like we were (I hope it had nothing to do with our age since we were younger and they were an older couple). We had to ask for cutlery since when we got our meals we had none, the server went to get a steak knives and returned and then we asked for forks since all we had on the table was condiments, we should have had cutlery right after we were sat down. I remember this restaurant being way better, I understand COVID hit places hard but some of these things are easy simple fixes and common sense. This restaurant was featured on The Food Network's "You Gotta Eat Here" back in 2014, and now 9 years later it's gone downhill in food from what it was prior to 2020. I hope they can get themselves fixed up as I would hate to see another restaurant slowly go to a close. I mean we did go on a Saturday when they should be busy but they weren't. Fingers crossed you can return to your...
Read moreMy experiences are usually better here but I have not been there in years. 2 adults and 3 kids. Adults ordered a Rueben meal and a porkchops meal while the kids has 2 regular poutines and one grilled cheese with fries. Surprisingly the adult dishes were the first to come out and were served (the more complicated dishes, you'd think, in comparison). We did not eat until the kids meals were brought out. The grilled cheese came after 5 more minutes, followed by ONE poutine a minute later then the second poutine 5 minutes later.
The food wasn't what I remember it to be and the staffs organization is horrible. I've been hearing "it's not as good as it was" and I have to agree with those critics. I hope this place can turn around again. (And made consider serving the children before the adults)
August 2019: Since the renovations I thought maybe it might be better. It is worse. This review is now a 1 star. I ordered wings on a Wednesday night before 6pm, there were 4 tables including us. I was told that they were out of wings. How this is even possible with no customers BEFORE dinner rush is beyond me (maybe poor management). So all I ordered was an appetizer of shrimp, my family ordered two poutines and a fish and chip. Our order came to $97!!! The renovations are a half finished patio and fresh paint in the lodge but they feel the need to raise their prices. Our daughter was left waiting for her poutine for 15 minutes after all the other food was brought out and we had to go into the restuarant to find staff if we needed anything. This is completely pathetic. My family will NEVER consider this place again. It is in your best interest to avoid this place. Nothing but bad experiences and it has only gotten worse since their "renovations". They have a sign outside for a half rack of ribs with corn bread and a side for $14.99 which is insanely over priced. You are better off going to Montanas. Such a disappointment as I had high hopes for this place. Also, a tip for management, don't have a blow out with your employee you're firing right in the middle of the restaurant in front of children. This place...
Read moreWorst Dining Experience of my life. And they ruined my father's 60th birthday party.
I generally don't write bad reviews, and having worked in the serving industry for 7 years, I am usually very understanding when a restaurant is busy and you have to wait for things. But the fact that it took us 2 hours to get our apps and meals, after we made a reservation AND ORDERED THE FOOD 3 days in advance makes the fact that we were blatantly ignored for most of the evening while every other table was served and out the door before us (even many that came in after us), unacceptable.
If you know the food order, it should be in the process of being cooked before or as soon as we get there. We should not have had the server come and confirm our order after we had been waiting 50 minutes for our food. And there were only 7 of us. When I was serving we would have tables of 20 fed and out the door in less than an hour, and that was WITHOUT a reservation and advance food order.
The fact that I had to wave down a server to get my brother his drink order 20 minutes after he ordered it, while 2 other servers had been pandering to the needs of the tables behind us is baffling. The fact that I had to grab my plate away from the server who decided that even though I was clearly still eating the food on the plate, and that I had made it clear on the 3 times when she rushed to clear our dishes that I didn't want her to take it because I was still eating, is baffling. Oh, and a special thanks for leaving our Dairy Cream Icecream cake out to melt for us. That was the topping to the truly awful evening.
The only part of the evening they did with any speed was try to get us out of there, despite the fact that my family was still being very polite despite the COMPLETE lack of respect or consideration given to us. Needless to say, I will never return, and I will warn anyone who wants to be treated with any amount of basic consideration to avoid the...
