For years now, Soper Park has been neglected for "The Back to Nature, the Natural Effect!" Savings way to cut costs! As a child, Soper Park was a magical place of family fun and picnics! Many fragrant pink Peonies and the cute Wren Bird Houses lined the Marion Way entrance near the now closed Kinsman Pool! The beautiful cascading branches of the Weeping Willows lined the manicured and maintained creek beds across from the two Tunnels and Tennis Court, Lawn Bowling and baby pool. The sparkling creek swimming pool was yearly cleaned by firemen and many shouting kids swimming or playing at the anchor or the dams! Young or old, enjoyed many exciting entertaining hours on the swings, teeter totters, merry-go-round, witches hat, rocking horses, monkey bars and slides! At the south side a wedding venue with a rose garden encourages visitations! Years ago, a short term small Fair set on the Galt Arena Parking Lot and the kids Cartoon Playhouse personality Big Al from CKCO TV made an appearance! A Refreshment Stand, Gazebo, and the massive Grandstand served for various events, weddings, bands, parties, fireworks and the two baseball diamonds. We spent many days at summer school playing games, Red Rover, Simon Says, Red Light Green Light, Coloring and crafts! KIDS HAD FUN! Need 2 benches closer for parents to watch the kids play on...
Read moreI remember this park from the fifties. Anyone could walk through this park without fear During the day it is not to bad as long as you stay out in the open. Or are walking your dog. I remember as a child of 8 yrs and above we when to the park to play and did not have our parents with us. There were alot of parents there with younger children. But back then as children we were taught to respect our elders. If you were caught doing anything wrong you could be sure when you got home ypur parents already knew. In the park you respected the playground. Everyone would help someone. We could swim in the creek. This park has drug users. And they are not always out in the open. At any given time you can smell weed being smoked. I am so uncomfortable in this once beautiful and cared for park that brought...
Read moreWe really enjoyed walking through this park with our eight year-old niece. We walked through some trails under a couple of bridges, around the river and to the main park area with the playgrounds. The swings are separated from the playground, on the other side of the splash pad area, which I found a little odd but it didn't deter our little one from zooming back and forth between the two play areas. There are benches (that don't face the playground), a tennis court and portapotties available also. If you're looking for a nice park to relax in with or without kiddos, this is a great spot. There are a few Pokemon Go stops as well, for...
