My family and I used to love Sam's grill. Their poutines were one of the best besides Quebec"s. great fries, gravy and cheese curds!! We stopped going 2 years ago because we found the portions were a lot smaller, so less fries in the container. A large used to last an adult 2 meals. Fo $20 that's worth it, after a few experience of those smaller portions we stopped going a large poutine was finished in one meal for $20 plus tax so not worth it! We decided to give it a try on March 15th 2025 again at the Cambridge location, we were excited to stumble across a buy 1 regular size poutine and get 1 free. We ordered that and a large order of deep fried pickles. It was horrible, the poutines were swimming in gravy and again, skimpy with the fries! The cheese was the worst, it wasn't the real squeaky fresh cheese curds that makes you know it's real. I'm a French Canadian I know these things! It was this melted semi liquid mush in our mouths. My who family was very disappointed! The deep fried pickles were good but a large 5 pieces for 16.99 like come on and they weren't even big! That is disgustingly expensive for 5 small pieces. So since I didn't go back to complain I'm writing this long awaited review in hopes that Sam's grill owners in Cambridge will go back to the quality food and portions that they once had. If not, customers beware, you will be disappointed and overly charged for it. Look at my pics before eating it and after..so sad the lack of...
Read moreDad and I came here after work, both of us hadn’t heard of this place until I saw it yesterday while going to BP. So anyway we’re two tough to impress people. Both got the #4 combo, burgers were loaded with cheese, condiments and sauces, not cheaply made! The hamburger itself had really good flavour. I grew up raising cattle that we would put in the freezer so I know what proper beef tastes like. Overall the burger was great, nothing super impressive but it stands out to me as a burger place for sure. The poutine that came with it had fries that were perfectly done, not too crispy, maybe one or two could have been done a bit more but that won’t happen even in a perfect world. The curds…THE CURDS!!! Real cheese curds and lots of ‘em!! The gravy that was on it could have been a little bit more flavourful, It tasted really good but there was something missing, maybe a spice? Otherwise the poutine was one of the more proper ones I’ve eaten, super good. Overall the experience and food was amazing, the staff were very friendly and actually had a smile on their face which was very welcoming to me as I come from a small town and around Cambridge/KW smiles are slim to none....
Read moreSorry Sam! Let me just start off by saying the food wasn't "bad", but it wasn't good. Especially for the price they are charging. Ordered a Rueben Sandwich combo (do not recommend) which came with fries and a canned pop.. for $17. Way over priced. And a pulled pork burger/sandwich combo which was also overpriced.
The Rueben Sandwich had lots of meat, but the meat was chewy, rubbery, had grissle on it, and tasted like it had been boiled or microwaved. Probably the worst Rueben I've ever had, and I've had many.
The fries were fresh and had potential but there was no salt on them at all. No flavour. The pulled pork was also reheated, and unlike most pulled pork which is cooked in the BBQ sauce to give it flavour, this pulled pork was plain unflavored pork, that had BBQ sauce squirted on it after it was on the bun. Not good.
Service was good, except we had to go up to the counter a few times to ask for simple things that were not out, like forks, napkins, also had to ask for more BBQ sauce because there was barely any on the sandwich.
Overall very fast foody, overpriced, and poor quality food. 37 bucks for the above was...
