This used to be my favorite restaurant but they won’t even acknowledge my fb message or email about my recent experience and all I wanted was to be heard and acknowledged so I didn’t lose faith in what I used to consider a great place to eat. My whole party was disappointed last visit and this is what I had sent them Hi there, I sent this through Facebook messenger but it was not acknowledged as of yet so I thought I would email. I have not posted this review publicly and wanted to share directly. Has the restaurant changed management or ownership?
Good morning, I wanted to reach out and let you know of our experience dining on this past Friday the 13th. I am a big fan of your restaurant and always eager to share my excitement of how I love your perch and prime rib. We have spent many celebrations with you including my 50th birthday dinner. I love the fish so much I drove from London to do a takeout order of several perch platters for my son’s birthday since they had a newborn at home. This past Friday, myself, my mom and my sister decided to treat ourselves with a drive to port for prime rib and it was a complete disappointment for us all. I don’t like to complain but I feel that because we have loved your restaurant so much, you should know all feedback because as they said, they would not be rushing back. It’s hard to find good restaurants anymore so this is disappointing. We all had the prime rib dinners and I added a side of perch to mine. My sister and I upgraded to ceasar salads which I was shocked to later find out it was a $4.50 upgrade which would not have been worth it. I then found a grey hair in my salad which I discreetly just pushed my bowl away because it was crowded in the restaurant and the tables were close together so I didn’t want to cause embarrassment and make a scene. We had ordered our prime rib medium rare and when it came it was very overdone with no pink whatsoever. I still wouldn’t have complained at that except, the beef itself was tough and chewy, totally unlike how a prime rib should have been. The fish is something I normally come for, and to be honest all I could taste is a strong oil that was not typical of my previous experiences. I thought you should know this because if I was asked what my favorite restaurant was last week, hands down I would say the bucaneer. Now I am concerned of the quality for which we experienced on Friday night and will hesitate on that choice. I don’t want to be a complainer but as a business owner, I feel it does more for you to know than to just lose patrons and wonder...
Read moreMy husband and I choose a place for lunch or breakfast every Saturday. We decided on the Buccaneer. Neither of us had been before, well, I have been but not for a very long time.
We loved the vibe of the place. Both servers were adorably dressed in all black to give the place that "higher end" vibe, which was super cute.
The menu was fairly small, with not a lot of appetizer options. After we ordered we noticed little stacked cards on the table that offered a few more options that weren't on the menu. Annoying, but oh well!
We started out with the garlic bread with cheese. I am a sucker for a GBC and you can't really go wrong with it. It did come with an orange slice as garnish, which I found really weird (but I still ate it haha). It was decent garlic bread; crispy and cheesy but not very garlicky!
I had the traditional club with fries and gravy. I like to dip my club into gravy and the side of gravy was big enough for that plus my fries! I loooove when the gravy cup can accomodate my dipping 😍😍. The club itself was FAB! Fresh turkey and bacon and it was perfectly toasted. My only gripe on the sandwich, which is totally personal preference, is that I asked for mayo but it came on the side in a little cup. This left me to dismantle my sandwich to add the mayo when it could have been easily added when making it.
My husband had the bacon burger with fries. He said the burger was "okay". It was a bit overcooked for his personal taste and he didn't like the flavour of the burger itself, but again, totally personal preference. Both of us did notice a weird spice on the fries as well; we couldn't quite pinpoint it, but we didn't love it. It was kind of tangy but not spicy.
We also ordered a few pints while there but two of the three came out 2/3 filled. He didn't complain because I would be mortified if he did, but they were kind of pricey to not be completely filled up ($20 for three).
All in all, we really had no complaints. This review is very much a personal preference. There wasn't anything wrong with the food, but it didn't suit our tastes...if that makes sense. We'll probably be back to visit and try...
Read moreTo the older blonde waitress that began serving us last night - you need a serious attitude adjustment and a class on customer service. We have never walked out of a restaurant in our lives - this was a first - and within minutes of dealing with her. After sitting outside not being acknowledged for about 10 minutes I politely walked in to retrieve menus which I could already tell from her she was not friendly.
During the first interaction we could sense some attitude when I asked about the size of the large greek salad.
Upon her return to take our order my wife was already dreading asking her another question - however no harm in simple questions we thought (wrong...). After asking about the cost of a garden salad substitution for fries (not posted on menu) she showed visible signs of frustration saying she would have to go check on the computer, then she turned and scoffed a noise like dealing with us was a chore.
We asked her about what the problem was and then she proceeded to accuse us of making a scene and disturbing other customers. She was absolutely miserable. We left the restaurant without even placing our order. We've dined here pretty much every time we visit port Stanley but after this experience doubt we will ever return. We are in no way high maintenance people.... a server by definition is meant to be friendly, a quality this lady does not possess. She ruined our evening and cost the restaurant our business (something that based on other reviews sounds like a regular occurrence). We can overlook many flaws and have in the past with this restaurant - this however was a...
