I had a lunch hour that was busy. I stopped at Tasty Bites as I have had eaten there before and it was always good. I can't say it was bad, but there were just little thing that bothered me. First it was shocking that No One was in there. The atmosphere, though clean was depressing with no customers. I'll assume they do more takeout? The service was okay. It was one person running the whole show. This lovely gal served me, cooked my meal and took my money. Literally there was No One there. That was kind of off putting. I looked around and saw the cooler cases that at one time were full were now empty. The rack that us used for the donair meat was not in use anymore. I ordered a donair burger, the closest thing I could get to a donair, despite the fact that there are photos of donairs on their windows. They still had their Wing Wednesday special on and it's Thursday. Not sure what the special was today, was not told. Didn't matter I guess. When I finally sat down to eat my lunch, I had a box with fries, they were good and a donair burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. It was tasty enough. But for $15.99 it could have had a bit more meat. All that aside, the thing that turned me off the most was I opened up the bag that this nice lady gave me with my food in and not cutlery, no napkins, no ketchup, nothing, no salt, pepper. When I ordered the burger she never asked if I wanted gravy, hot sauce or anything. As nice as the service was and the food was okay but a bit pricy for what you get, it will be a long time...
Read moreWe used to stop in on our way through to Calgary to visit family ALL the time or when kids were coming to visit, we would meet up there because it was the half way point between homes and let’s face it, they definitely had some Tasty Bites!!! Prices were great too! BUT over the last few years things have gone waaaaay down hill. Food less than appealing, orders incorrect and the prices extremely high. Still as we were heading north from Red Deer today we thought we would order a Mango Lassie and a large order of ribs for car food. The large order of ribs was no more than a single measuring cup full!!! You could hold them in the palm of one hand. The Mango Lassie tasted like a Mango shake … no yogurt? Where was the zip? And the cost!!!! $27.40!!!!!!! Definitely we will not be going back. We’ve had a few other major disappointments and have decided not to go back but then nostalgia hits and we forget about the last order we had and remember all the great years we used to have. Sadly, no more. Not worth it. Not going back. Can not recommend. Don’t waste your...
Read moreMy partner and I stopped here for lunch on our way home to Calgary from the farm. We spilt a large Donair and butter chicken poutine. The portion sizes were quite large and we left feeling quite full.
We are more accustomed to spicier Indian food, and found the butter chicken quite bland. At home, we make butter chicken from scratch with all the right masalas, so we found this butter chicken sauce quite lacking in flavour and quality (I.e. not made from scratch). If we ever came back again, we would ask them to make it a touch spicier in the least.
The cheese in the poutine is pizza mozzarella and not cheese curds. Nevertheless, the poutine was still full of cheesy goodness, but traditional curds would have made it on point.
The atmosphere isn’t bad for an independent restaurant in Lacombe, but you could definitely tell this was once a Coffee Time back in the day - there were still some coffee time times in the bathroom.
All in all, we had a decent visit, and would potentially consider coming back if we needed to stop for lunch on the way home and wanted to...
