While passing through Clearwater, we stopped at Hop N Hog. We arrived a little before 6 p.m., and the hostess took our information and mentioned that we might have to wait up to an hour. So we waited on-site, clearly visible, keeping an eye on our four children and listening for the hostess to call us. Several groups who arrived after us were seated, but we thought maybe it was because they were just two people compared to our party of six.
A little over an hour later, a family that had just arrived was seated before us. I looked at the hostess with a puzzled expression. She asked how many we were; I told her six and gave her my name again. She looked at her list with a strange expression and told me that she had called us, but we had stayed right there near the door and never heard our name. Two adults and four kids — we’re hard to miss! She couldn’t possibly have overlooked us. The hostess didn’t seem to feel guilty; she didn’t apologize but suddenly found us a table.
Once seated, the server was excellent, but we waited another hour before being served, even though we ordered as soon as he came to see us. Two hours in total before getting our plates — which were lukewarm and almost cold. Our 5-year-old son even fell asleep at the table while waiting! The food was fine but certainly not worth the two-hour wait and the price. We mentioned the situation to the server a little before being served, but apart from apologizing, he didn’t offer anything special.
In short, a so-called “must-visit” in the area that turned out to be very disappointing. The highlight, however, was the...
Read moreBrilliant little place, we had an overnight stay in clearwater on our way to Jasper, had a look around for a place to eat and Hop n Hog was reviewed highly, tried to make a reservation but the website says any reservations made for the same day after 12:00 will not be secured (keep that in mind as this place get busy) so we wondered down to see if we could get a table, we were met at the door by a very friendly waitress and told there would be a 10-20 min wait to be seated, true to her word 20 mins later our table o the patio was ready, it's not to far from the road although the traffic was light and wasn't a bother, our waitress Emma came over to take our order who for the whole time we were there was very polite and attentive and couldn't do enough for us 5* give her a raise, Now if you visit, trust me and get the Jalapeño Brisket stuffed popper, my God these were good, sweet, not to hot, smokey and packed with cheese, brisket and tons of flavour, I then had the 16 hour smoked brisket, the beef was tender, smokey a great char and tasted amazing, it came with sides of apple slaw which was phenomenal, bbq beans which had great flavour and a generous portion of potato salad that had a hint of mustard and really set it off, all in all this was I think the best choice by far for food in clearwater, if you are after some great bbq then head over to the Hop n Hog, my advice, if you can book ahead remember the 12:00 cut off and get there early as once the meat is gone it's gone,...
Read moreOrdered food at 5:50. I ws told the wait time was 20 minutes which was ok considering it was pretty busy. I ordered the pulled pork bun. It was supposed to come with the sandwich, slaw, baked beans, and a choice of potato salad or caesar salad. Added two side macs, one with pulled pork and one without. Also added cornbread.
Went back 20 minutes after I ordered. The server came with my food within a minute. (I didn't assume I would have to check our order.) We're staying at an AirBnB about 15 minutes away. When we sat to eat the food, we realized there are no baked beans, and one of the macs doesn't have pulled pork or bbq sauce. Very disappointing considering the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the food smells amazing.
My advice to management would be to have your kitchen staff or counter server check off each item on the printout for any takeout order, as they package it. It takes a minute to do, but it saves from messing up an order somebody paid for. Communication between the front orf house and heart of house is the most important thing in a restaurant.
I can guarantee that the people willing to wait for your delicious food will be more than willing to wait for your staff to ensure that the meal your sending out, is going to be fully enjoyed.
The food was definitely good. I'm sure a sitdown experience would be completely different because any issues can be corrected immediately. Definitely recommend Hop N Hog, but I also recommend checking your order if you...
