I visited this Denny’s specifically to try the plant-based whole wheat pancakes advertised on the menu. I have a dairy allergy and chose this dish because it was labeled as plant-based — which should mean no milk, butter, or dairy derivatives. I have not been to Denny's in years because I know they don't offer a lot of plant based stuff - so I specifically went again because this item is labelled "plant based."
Instead, the experience was a complete failure in allergen handling and food safety. The server told me the pancakes contained dairy (they don’t), and offered to bring me an omelet instead — which then arrived covered in butter and served with buttered toast. Not to mention, he offered to bring meat as well. I had clearly stated my allergy, but the server didn’t seem to understand what dairy includes and made no effort to confirm anything with the kitchen.
When the plate arrived, I questioned the toast, and he tried to take just that. I asked, “Was the egg cooked with butter too?” — only then did he admit it was, and reluctantly took the whole plate. At that point, I said I’d just eat the fruit instead. My husband was left to eat his meal alone, and by the time the server returned — about five minutes later — to say the pancakes were actually dairy-free, my husband was already halfway through his meal.
Why wasn’t this checked in the first place? I cautiously agreed to try again, and they brought out a new plate of eggs and pancakes — but after eating, I began to feel sick. I now believe dairy was still present, either in the preparation or through cross-contamination.
To make things worse, I was still charged for the meal. No manager came to the table, no apology was offered, and there was no acknowledgment at all of how disruptive and uncomfortable the experience was, especially the fact that I could not share a normal meal with my partner due to the staff’s mishandling.
I followed up by email to explain what happened and requested remote resolution. The manager admitted the server was “misinformed” and offered a return visit — but that completely ignores the fact that I got physically sick from eating something I was told was dairy-free. His tone was defensive, and the offer to “give it another try” was not nearly enough given how seriously this impacted my health and experience.
This wasn’t a simple service error — it was a serious food safety issue. Mislabeling a dish as plant-based and then topping it with butter is unacceptable, especially for people with allergies. The staff are clearly not trained to handle allergens or even understand what “plant-based” means.
If you have dietary restrictions, I cannot recommend this location. The labeling on the menu does not reflect reality, and the staff’s handling of allergies is unsafe, uninformed, and...
Read moreThe entire experience was terrible, we came in on a Friday at around 2am, and it was like it was a club, we got to our table and after we placed the order our server only came to drop off our food and we never saw her after that, we can see the kitchen staff from the seat and we can hear their really loud music playing from the kitchen, we can sympathize that it was probably a Friday night where people come back from nightclubs and there might have been a lot of drunk people wanting to eat somewhere late night but it was like the staff reciprocated that terrible energy. The food looked extremely mediocre we ordered a steak and wings and it looked so undercooked we didn’t even finish half the food, our night was ruined we didn’t even give refills on water we didn’t see our server at all, and it seemed that the manager didn’t help her at all. The bathrooms were worst than an outhouse it was unkept, I didn’t even use the washroom, the manager said “we hope you enjoyed your experience” I politely didn’t want to answer and I said no I’m very sorry and I explained and it seemed like the manager was trying to make light of the situation sarcastically and didn’t take me seriously, I didn’t want to argue so I just paid and left. The manager then said “I’ll yell at the staff for you I’m so sorry!” Which was a very dumb thing to say, there only seemed to be one server he should’ve helped her we watched him as he did a whole lot of nothing. We will not be returning to this location and surprised it even has a decent review, the night staff definitely needs to...
Read moreEdit 5.3.23 my gosh, Denny's has won my heart again. Minou, our server was extremely kind and patient with us. The food portions were HUGE and affordable. Everyone was kind, and there's absolutely nothing bad to say at all.
Edit 9.04.22: since then, Denny's has been so relaxed and always a go-to for late night snacks or hangout spots.
It's been quiet since the pandemic, but the quality has always been good. The servers always make my day.
Sam was our server and she was an angel! From when we sat down to when we finished our meal, she has been so kind and helpful.
We only came for a nachos and mozza bites, and she helped us with choosing an alcohol drink even though we ended up not choosing any.
What made my day was when she suggested mango lemonade and even have me a fre strawberry lemonade refill. This kind action will forever draw me back to Denny's 😊
2018 (outdated): Denny's is a nice spot for birthday parties and casual meals. Price-wise it isn't exactly the most affordable.
The wait is always long though. There's many customers all the time and the cooks must be busy.
The servers were very nice though a bit clumsy at times like spilling the water.
I ordered the veggie skillet and lots of the contents were burnt to a crisp- all black and charred.
I used to come here for my friends' parties especially for the bottomless drinks. However inflation got the better of it.
I would come here but only for birthdays where it's more affordable. (free Grand slam or...
