Welp, thanks to a few recommendations, proximity, and sheer exhaustion on my part, making me unwilling to cook tonight, we finally checked out The Naan Club!
For drinks, we ordered the strawberry lime mojito mocktail (not pictured) and masala Coke. The mojito was the clear winner, though I can't deny that the taste of the masala coke was slowly starting to grow on me by the end of the meal. Don't think I'd order it again, though, and I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.
The butter naan isn't bad, but I would recommend asking if they could put a dash of salt on it before serving; without it's somewhat unremarkable. The garlic naan was GREAT, and we'll for sure be coming back for that and really want to try the cheese naan. This naan is more of the traditional flaky, laminated style naan you'd find in the northern region of India rather than the fluffier, doughier naan we're more used to here.
The plain rice is super yummy and fluffy with just the right amount of caraway seeds. That said, $7 for rice is a bit much 😳 not enough to stop me from wanting to try their coconut rice.
The mango butter chicken was different and SUPER yummy. I was cautiously optimistic about this dish; I was worried it was going to be too sweet or that you wouldn't taste the mango, and neither worry was realized. And OMG, the chicken was gooooorgeous. It was perfectly fork tender.
The BBQ platter was mostly perfection. They have some of the best fries we've had in a really long time. Nicely seasoned and crispy outside and sooo fluffy on the inside. The chicken was...OMG it was so delicious. Sadly, it doesn't look like you can order it on its own 😪 same with the prawns (we all wished there were more of those). The beef short ribs were okay. That was probably the weakest thing we ordered - save for the malasa coke - but honestly, that didn't come as any surprise. If they were to velvet the beef first and sweeten the marinade just a touch, that would be all that was needed to make that out of this world.
The kulfi was good, but where it excels in flavour, it lacks in presentation. It's a small, pre-packaged portion - about half a cup - and is over frozen (almost to the point of freezer burn but not quite) so when it's placed on your table you're left with a bit of a "this is it?" feeling. It tastes great, though, and is super refreshing. A bit of panache with how they plate it, along with stocking it at the front of the freezer rather than the back, would be all they need to make this dessert a perfect way to wrap up your meal.
The service was charming, quick, and attentive. The manager (perhaps owner?) made a few rounds around the restaurant to make sure everyone was having a good time, as did the head server (or perhaps manager). We had a brief conversation with the former, and he was genuinely interested in knowing what our thoughts were with our meal. I get the sense that they're still trying to carve out their place in the culinary world and figure out who they are. My hope is they're able to do that before the economic conditions on the ground get to them first 🙏 they're getting a new executive chef next week so time will tell.
All in all, I'm going to give them about a 3.8 out of 5 and look forward to going back to give them a better review because I have no doubt they take the feedback they get seriously. Definitely go there, but manage your expectations. Are you going to have a good time eating pretty decent food in a bright, modern setting? 100%. Is it going to be the best Indian restaurant you're going to dine at this side of the Port Mann? No. Is that potential there? I think so.
I do hope they add their business to Facebook so people can check in when...
Read moreIt was a Korean styled Izakaya 2 or 3 years ago? I couldn't recall it much since it was a few years ago. My good friend recommended here last week, so I gave it try with my family including 3 years old Niece, so they can try some new food cuisine. I already like Indian foods though :) We tried prawn vindaloo, chicken tikka, Dal makhani with Naan and Roti and coconut rice as well as Vegi Samosa with some drinks. Naan was the best, hot and not too think, Roti was a bit of dry and burnt. The rice was hot and flavorful as expected.(The price for the rice is on the bit higher side, though) Chicken tikka was well marinated and my favorite one, but could use more portion. (Maybe because it was a happy hour dish?) Prawn vindaloo was good and tangy with chucks of potatoes.(It could be a bit more dense for my linking.) Dal makhani was tender and mixed well. For all curry dishes, I wish a bit more green garnish on top of each dish. It would make each dish look better and a favour could be enhanced. Happy hour beer was $4 per sleeve- my best was IPA. All beer was fresh. My mom ordered a Margarita and it was turned out to be Tequila based, so I had to finish it as well. I liked a strong Margarita :) The service-------------more than 5 stars. All of the staffs were checking all tables and we were provided new dishes after app. Both hot and cold water were provided in each pot, so no need to refill to the end. Probably, the best serviced place in the Tri cities including all Franchise ones! ** Table napkins were thick and soft, but somehow...there were much lint coming out from the napkins. You might want to change the brand not to see those lint could be on the dishes. I could see it flying :) The dining room was bright and clean. I just didn't like the color of the sofas and chairs too much as well as the structure of table settings, but this place is clean....
Read moreThe food was pretty decent all except for one dish. One dish a potato bahjia dish was incredibly soggy and oily . It just was no good. When pointed out the first thing the server did was try to dodge the fact it wasn’t proper . Don’t do that . If it’s not right it’s not right check your ego and your choices for how to handle a minor problem.
The owner eventually involved made another plate of the dish which was a improvement but took a long time to come I was already over it by this point .he insisted I stay to try the second place wich was better .
The service was ok orders were taken and there was no mistakes in what was ordered .
The main problem with this place tho is atmosphere. Way way way way too loud and the several crashes coming from the bar area ruined the overall experience for us . Drop something once ok twice sure but three times and each time a collective jolt from the patrons is too much . To top it off the ridiculousness of shaking up a cocktail as loud as possible might draw attention on a Mumbai street where people compete for attention but here it’s just pretentious and annoying.
The food is not bad but it never hits out of its wieght class and by the end of it you are not certain what class that is to begin with . A restaurant with exquisite food was never the vibe I got here . A Indian restaurant in a area with fewer Indian restaurants is seems to be the main attraction here . It’s called the Naan Club I mean if you are going to call it that the Naan should be spectacular it was ok-good but no more than that. I’m not sure I’d give it a second try . It was good but it wasn’t memorable or special in anyway and the atmosphere was unpleasantly loud chaotic and scrambling. There was maybe a third capacity in there at most . I can imagine real problems if it was busier I really wanted to love it...
