Well, we thought we were walking into something good. But don't let that fool you. If you are fooled, then head this advice - order a cheap drink and flee for the exit immediately. Our waitress advertised the fish and chips to be "world class." And also hyped up the Ciopinno as one of their best items on the menu. Mom ordered 2 pc halibut but it definitely was not halibut, and it definitely was packaged frozen breaded fish under the guise of "panko crumbs". They gave her 4 small pieces that were exactly cookie cutter shaped from one another (as if it came from a frozen breaded fish package)... and the restaurant feels good about charging market price for this?? - 27$ I did take a portion of my mom's fries, and upon the portion that I took was a hair which had been fried into the fry, and stuck out like one strand of grass. My dad's ciopinno was a mess of flavours, and altogether not fresh. Clams and mussels were old. The red wine did not match well with the tomato pepper sauce that they had going on, and the other bits of seafood (fish, scallops, crab) were, well, fishy and overcooked. Accompanying the ciopinno was a caesar salad which leaves had been wilted, either from the amount of dressing piled onto it, or from it being premade in the back of the kitchen and let to sit for hours before serving. Mom complained about the salad, and the server took 3$ off the bill for it. Between 2 5$ drinks and 2 unworthy meals, the bill was 67$. The only thing we didn't do right was complain more about our meals. My parents were spending time with their daughter whom they don't get to see often anymore and we all wanted to show a positive spirit towards each other amidst the horrible restaurant experience. We will definitely not be coming back and advise you not to...
Read moreWow....this afternoon crew is uncaring. As semi regular clients we have recommended and even brought people to this cute pub with a patio. In the past...smiley faces and quick service of good food was the experience. Not today. Today the crew on shift led by the female manager were passive aggressive. We came in as we knew service no matter how crowded would be quick and friendly... particularly important this time due to medical issue. While we were seen and seated quickly it started going down hill from there. ---staff were a bit long getting back to us to take order despite standing around bar socializing. Order taken....I ask for my normal kids portion (as I eat small and have allergies to the extras). Informed that I can't have kids.. must have more expensive adults. Disappointed we go ahead with order advising that we'd never had it challenged before..in fact it was staff that advised us about this. Next thing I know manager rushed over to table and said same message. She was so hostile that I said to only get spouses meal as he needed to eat. Then she suggested we share his meal. I explained I order mine the way I do because of allergies. Just get him the meal he ordered cancel mine. 30 mins later...tables near us had not been busked and we were obviously being ignored. No approaches just idle chit chat at bar. I observed others getting service elsewhere but our section was a dead zone. Now their passive aggressive attitude is affecting us medically. We grabbed a ten dollar bill..walked up to the bar and paid our tab for drink. I won't repeat what manager said but we advisedher that we would leave this review and not be back. She snarkily responded to this.

Read moreAnother great stop to add to my Christmas experience/experiment for shopping and eating locally this year - is Sharkeys! Down by the river in Ladner. After doing some Christmas shopping at Open Space Yoga's annual fund raiser for the hospice, my Renaissance friend, Lisa, and I set off for lunch. After some discussion on where to go, we decided on Sharkeys,. They've been around a long time and has always been the good go-to place for lunch or dinner in the summer. For whatever reason, I don't think of Sharkeys as often in the fall/winter. What a delightful decision we made! It was early afternoon so we thought we had missed the busy lunch crowd. Boy were we wrong! It was packed! It was filled with laughter, combinations of family, friends, dates etc. All enjoying a Saturday lunch, late lunch or early dinner. It felt good. The staff that greeted us at the door were friendly and welcomed us but told us it would be up to a 30 minute wait time for our food, but was excited to seat us, and to keep us in wine until our meal came. Lol. We were in! Lisa and I both commented on the fact that he told us up front that there would be a wait, but come on in! The service was great! We didn't even notice the time. We were in no hurry and we were just looking forward to catching up before the busy season was upon us. The food was great. We joked with our server that it was Lisa's birthday lunch (her birthday was in September and I forgotđ) and Lisa said it was my birthday lunch (mine was in Octoberđ) so she brought us a beautiful piece of delicious cake for us to share. How sweet is that? Eat local. You'll be...
