BEFORE I SAY ANYTHING ABOUT TAVERNA GORGONA, PLEASE READ THIS:
Two years ago I moved to the area, not far from VASSILIS SOUVLAKI restaurant. I always wanted to spend nice lunch at the place, since it has sign "voted best Greek restaurant in Burnaby." Finally, the decision was made and, January 17th, 2014 when Rick, my dear spouse was celebrating his 60-th Birthday., we decided to visit the premises. The first impression was beautiful. Nicely decorated place with touchy ambiance. The waitress came to greet us. Rick asked for table at the fireplace, since we found the place little too cold. She replied immediately, that there's no service at that area. When we sat down, Rick went to washroom, so I took an advantage and asked the waitress if there's a possibility to surprise the b'day man with a little sweet treat. To my surprise, the waitress's reaction was ":and who's is picking up the bill"? (!!!) When she saw my speechless reaction, she added, that the restaurant doesn't provide anything complimentary. I am sure we all are aware, that any food joint provides a little nice touch for b'day people. I was not asking for anything spectacular; e.g 1 ice-cream ball with a little candle would do it. We had a huge cake for him ready in the evening anyway.... We ordered a roasted lamb and I had Greek salad instead of the rice and potatoes. I believed that the owner is Greek, and he knew how to make the authentic Greek salad I remember from Greece or any Greek places. That was the worst Greek salad I've ever eaten. No peppers, no onions, no dressing (olive oil combined with lemon juice + Oregano), the feta cheese was like a powder on it... Overall - very dry and tasteless. As per the lamb - it had 40% fat.. Our waitress was unfriendly, unpleasant and not very approachable. But I couldn't say the same about her approach to other customers - the regular ones - especially men. People who show favouritism should not be in the industry of hospitality. To sum our visit up - I will never recommend this restaurant to anybody I know. I wonder, what made the restaurant to be voted as the best Greek restaurant for 13 year...(?) The best places to eat, considering Greek food: PAROS TAVERNA, Coquitlam (the best calamari) and TAVERNA GORGONA, Ladner - any food is FANTASTIC! Extremely reasonable prices and wonderful staff. And if you try lamb there, which is melting in your mouth, you won't go to have it anywhere else. What I remember, the big plate of lamb + your choice (potato / rice ) + beautiful Greek salad + yummy tzatziki is about $10. Hope you will all enjoy it...
Read moreok here it is.... I entered the place with the intention that I would let my host pick-up the meal for me as I do most of the time as I know it will be exquisite if they choose for me. To make sure I had an experienced serveur, I asked the waitress which plate she really likes. She does not know as she never tried the meat dishes there as she is vegetarian. At this point I decided that I would not get anywhere with that answer. Her attitude was on the authoritarian side, perhaps a new employee with no training provided as it is so often the case. I was surprised and I did not expect this kind of approach in a restaurant. Then of course I orderd the moussaka (a "must be righ" for any respectable greek establishment). That moussaka had a salt infection. And I do eat salty but this one...wow. Ok lets return it for something else as all the other moussakas would be from the same batch. Ok.. the beef slouvaki sounds ok...nothing spectacular compared to my first intention to be surprised by the cook best meal. I waited close to 20 minutes and by that time my guess had finished her dish. I took few bites than called it off. When the bill arrived, the waitress tells me that they would not charge me for the moussaka... Wow... She told me that the restaurant would charge me the price of the slouvaki which was few dollars more. Wow... cheap owner. I spoke with someone today and apparently the cook Franco told me that it is more pricy. He obviously need a course in customer cost acquisition. Very poor client satisfaction as they...
Read moreWe recently had dinner at Taverna Gorgona in Ladner with my wife and son, and it was a truly memorable experience. From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the tone for the evening. The decor, with its Mediterranean charm, created an atmosphere that felt authentic and cozy.
The service was impeccable. Our server was attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, and eager to ensure our dining experience was perfect. We appreciated their recommendations, which proved to be spot-on.
The food was the star of the evening. We started with the calamari, which was perfectly crispy and paired with a delightful tzatziki sauce. For mains, my wife had the lamb souvlaki, my son opted for the chicken souvlaki, and I went for the seafood platter. Each dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with fresh flavors and generous portions. The accompanying Greek salad and rice pilaf were delicious and well-balanced.
We couldn’t resist finishing the meal with baklava, and it was easily one of the best we’ve ever had—crispy, sweet, and not overly heavy.
What stood out most was the genuine hospitality and the restaurant’s ability to make you feel at home while enjoying a fine dining experience. Taverna Gorgona is truly a gem in Ladner, and we’ll definitely be back soon. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Greek cuisine in a...
