Dropped by this place after a hike because of the reviews and it was a pleasant suprise. The place is very automated - you order from a touch screen and the food arrives on a conveyer belt. It’s self serve in the sense where you grab your own utensils and clean your table afterwards, but very cool concept that I have yet to experience for Mexican food. The ambiance is cute, having a small outdoor patio for dogs and the inside, although small, feels Mexican with the cute decorations to say the least. The menu in itself has a variety of options, having take home taco kits, the typical food you’d expect (taco, quesadilla, burrito etc.) and a lot of vegan/vegetarian options.
My friend and I ordered the Guac and Chips and I tried 3 Taco’s (Jackfruit Mole, Mushroom Pibil and Vegan Chorizo). The Guac and Chips weren’t exactly what I expected. It was more like avocado crema and this other red salsa that came with the chips. I will say the chips were one of the best tortilla chips I’ve had. They were fried to have a great crunch, were thick enough to dip well but weren’t too thick and it wasn’t oily at all. I’ve been to multiple places where their chips felt too oily and thick, or they used generic bag chips - both equally disappointing. Both sauces were great and it’s definitely a good snack to share. As for the Taco’s, they’re roughly 5 inch tortilla’s (option for corn or wheat) that are quite basic but generously filled. The vegan chorizo was my favourite, it had a very meaty texture and the raw onions worked really well at balancing it in terms fo flavour and added some crunch - I’d recommend this to vegetarians. The jackfruit and mushroom were good in terms of flavour as well. My only thing was that I like toppings in my taco’s like cilantro and raw onions to make it more refreshing and add better texture, while these really just focus on the main ingredient stated and that’s it. I also wish they gave free hot sauce or something because I feel that’s relatively standard in most mexican restaurants.
Overall, this was a great self-serve taco experience that I will definitely return to if I’m looking for a quick bite. It’s definitely a hidden gem that shows how simple food can be good. It’s reasonably priced for the portions (probably only need 2 tacos and some chips to be content) and has a great ambiance on a sunny day. The only type of person who wouldn’t enjoy this place is one who likes personal experiences with servers and someone who likes to know details about the items because the description for everything was quite vague. It’s a great place for people who want to interact with little people, but still...
Read moreI was looking for a decent Mexican restaurant in Vancouver and luckily I found a great one! Love the food and the way it is presented in its packaging. The place is also very cute. A lot of attention to presentation as well as flavor.
I ordered the Michelada and it is done the way they do it in Mexico (Full disclosure I am Mexican, born and raised, so I know how things should taste).
Also I had the Cochinita tacos are amazing, the taste of the tender pork with a touch of guacamole is delicious and rare, specially for a place outside of Mexico, it does bring back the memories of home. Esquites were on point. All in all very good, although not as spicy as I am accustomed for Mexican food. Do ask for the smoked Habanero oil dropper, it makes a hell of a difference on the Cochinita tacos.
Only thing I did not love is the ordering computer, it feels a little impersonal, but I guess I might be unaccustomed to this, as this is the route many fast-casual restaurants are going on now. I have started seeing this more and more, so I guess I'm just old. Although while ordering a lady came out and explained the options and brought out the drinks and some items.
In general it is a great spot to satisfy those cravings for Mexican food and definitely on of the best Mexican places I have found while traveling...
Read moreI reserved Cornelia Fine Tacos Restaurant for my bday party for 20 people this Saturday and everything went beyond my expectations! To beging with, the place had outstanding food with lots of classic dishes and more original options to choose from. No matter from we ordered though, everything tasted spectacular and we barely left any food on our plates, as people went to order multiple times throughout the night. Another fun part about this place is it’s way of serving! It’s so innovative and cute to see your order come up on the little train tray, as you then go to pick it up. It really adds to the fun atmosphere of the place, and also gives you lots of privacy, no matter whether you ordering just as a regular customer or having a little party there 🎉 People and I also loved the drinks, as all of them matched the style of the fine tacos dining experience. The place offers some authentic tasting margaritas and micheladas. Oh and one more thing - the service. It was so nice 🙌🏻 the owner, the manager of the place and the rest of the crew were very nice, helpful and professional. I always felt like they listen and were ready to help, as they love their customers. I highly recommend Cornelia Fine Tacos! Can’t wait to go...
