I came here with my girlfriend from Seattle last Friday shortly after we arrived to our airbnb. We both have come to Vancouver the past two years and typically always enjoy our stay in this city with great people, scenery and overall wonderful atmosphere.
Upon arrival the bar manager was really friendly and welcoming. He suggested some drinks for us to have and we obliged happily as we love local's suggestions on drinks. After a few drinks we were having a good time watching the world series and the occasional joke with our new bar manager friend. Well it became clear to me that one joke triggered our bar manager friend to the point that he started accusing us of being too drunk. I was taken off guard for a second because I wasn't sure if he was still joking or if our conversation became suddenly serious.
I quickly became very uncomfortable with how he was treating us and how sudden his attitude changed. I told him I was disappointed because we were happy to spend our money here but he answered that he didn't care. I apologized if my I said something that offended him but he continued to be dismissive toward us. This really ruined the good night we were beginning to have and I quickly closed my tab with him.
If I said something that bothered him I can understand why he would be upset. What I don't understand is why he had to push us in an uncomfortable position that effectively forced us to leave the establishment. I would have felt differently about this situation if he was up front about the way he felt about what I might have said and addressed what he had issues with and allowed me the opportunity to apologize and remedy an awkward situation. I think he made have reacted sensitively to our banter and the way he handled it put an awful taste in our mouth upon leaving this place.
Really cool bar, very poor management. Also, your manager doesn't seem to care if he pushes customers away because it's not his money that is getting taken out of his pocket, it's...
Read moreI tried to order a Big Mac at about 11:15 am. I noticed the drinking glasses for sale, so I ordered one with my food. The manager herself told me that I would have to wait 15 minutes as lunch did not start until 11:30. I said I’d buy the glass now, while waiting for lunch service to start. I was told that was not possible as the glass purchase had to be made with a food purchase. I reminded her I could not order right then as she had just told me I couldn’t order until 11:30. She said “no you can’t do that”. I offered to pay for it all right that minute, and she tells me again no you must wait 15 minutes. They would not sell me anything! I wear dentures, but I was not wearing them this morning, and something like this (disrespectful, discriminatory treatment) always happens when I’m not wearing my dentures. The manager was so rude and dismissive towards me that I left feeling humiliated. Great customer service! I hope this manager understands sarcasm when...
Read moreCame to the Pemby for the first time in over a decade because I saw on Reddit that their cook was doing amazing things.
Turns out, that's 1000% true.
The special was an epic stuffed pork chop. The stuffing was what I wished my mom could make. It was paired with perfectly cooked Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, roast beets. The sauce was a delicious Hunter sauce as well as an apple butter that was both delicious and a beautiful traditional pair with the pork. It was a dinner I'd be happy with if I went to a $50/plate fine dining restaurant.
I nearly cried it was so good.
It was also huge, so for $24, I got 2 meals.
Drink specials were good ($5.25), the game was on, and they were nice about me doing work. In fact, if my work could always be done at the Pemby, I would consider setting up a table as an office in a quiet corner.
Don't hesitate to make the trek to the end of Pemberton Ave, you will not be disappointed - even if you are coming...
