About a year ago I took an elderly and disabled client who is in a wheelchair to Delanys . I had gotten a Starbucks coffee previous and he preferred delanys so we went there ,he just purchased a granola bar and I got a bottle of water as well .We sat outside an older man was staring at us i now know this is the owner he approached not introducing himself and just said you have a Starbucks coffee with you this is for delanys customers you can’t sit here, I said To him we have just spent money here ? He then says I understand but you can’t sit here with your Starbucks coffee , he was very harsh and rude I was absolutely disgusted by his behaviour . He then quickly realized he was rude and said wait wait sit and finish and then go …I said no were leaving and we got up and left .If he even for a second tried to ask our names or even the clients name I was supporting that day with a disability ,who let me add he has lived in this edgmont neighborhood for over 40 years and the amount of money he has spent at delayneys …he has been going getting coffee and treats there since it opened up .I have also lived in north van for 34 years and as a young girl and adult would go to delanys as does my whole family .I am writing this reveiw a year later because I went there the other day with my husband and my daughter who wanted a sandwich from delayneys we got Starbucks coffees in our hands a few minutes before this .I was so uncomfterble standing in there waiting for our sandwich after we ordered ,I then saw him again sitting with a lady I’m guessing his wife I could see her mouth to him “look they have Starbucks “, the owner glared along with his wife ,he walked by us several times staring at us waiting on the side for our sandwich. I was just waiting for him to say somthing ,it was awful I really don’t want to go there anymore , it’s sad because the girls there are lovely but Unfortunetly the owner is not . I think he needs to retire and spend less time walking around looking for things...
Read moreToday I had a terrible experience at this coffee shop. I entered and saw a customer who was ordering her coffee and I stood behind her. Then an older man passed me and stood in the different direction. I didn’t think much about it. Then another couple came and stood behind the older man. I assumed everyone can see me standing here when no one was in line (including people at the cash). So I went ahead and started placing my order. That was when the cashier started asking if it was my turn and I explained to her I was behind the lady who just left. Instead of a simple apology She said she didn’t see me because that lady was blocking her sight. Pleas note I am not a short or petit person to be missed. I told the older man that I am not in rush and he could go ahead. At this moment another worker came from back and in an insulting tone as if she is teaching a child pointed at a direction and told me that the line starts there. I was a bit offended by this point and looked for a sign to see if I had missed any sign. So i said I didn’t see any signs, i explained when I entered there was only one person here. the person on cash shook her head and said it’s fine. But her body language was insulting. Looking at people in line and looking and me with rolling eyes. I felt so embarrassed. It was a terrible situation to be in. After paying for my order, I sat down waiting for someone to call my name for my coffee. By this time, a long line was behind me. I sat for quite a long time watching everyone behind me getting their coffee and leave. When I realized that they haven’t even started my order I just had enough, asked for a refund. Again the lady who made a refund was absolutely rude. It’s so sad to see customers service of such an amazing company is declining to this point. I believe in education and training. I hope someone from management reads this post and takes customer service training a priority because I am sure with this staff this will be a...
Read moreI moved to Vancouver in January of 2021 from Ontario. It’s hard to find a local coffee shop when in a new area and I was adamant to not support Starbucks or Tim Hortons. Maybe 3 months into living here I came across Delany’s Coffee House. I was in Dundarave visiting family and they took me to see where all the locals go!
Dundarave is quiet, yet adorable. They have a a train that runs along the top of the store which instantly had me falling in love with the atmosphere there. The kids (while there weren’t a lot when I stopped in) loved the train! Always asking to turn it on. It can be a little noisy at times but that didn’t bother me, though I can see it may bother some if it’s non-stop.
I’ve only been in Dundarave a handful of times but Edgemont is my home base as I live near Princess Park.
Edgemont is bright and spacious, with the kind of vibe I love in a coffee shop. Where Dundarve is quiet, Edgemont is lively and energetic.
The locals are so friendly, I’ve found I’ve made some friends I can have a coffee with before I head off to work.
What I really love though is the latte art. I’ve never seen such creative art on my drinks before! I’ve been coming here for 4 years now and every time I take a picture of the art. Too many to post on one review but I must share them with you all.
If you’re visiting, I highly recommend Delanys. Who knows, maybe I’ll bump into you during my daily morning coffee!
To the Edgemont team, thank you for a great cup of coffee! Looking forward to checking out moodyville...
