Good food, very friendly and attentive staff, very nice vibe. Don't get me wrong, this is not a gourmet restaurant, it is good diner food served fresh. We had breakfast, eggs done as we ordered them, excellent, juicy sausages, nice thick, tasty bacon. The hash browns looked to be baked potatoes that had been grated and fried, which is what I like. A little bland perhaps, but not greasy, next time I'll ask for onions. The sourdough toast was good, jam on the side. Unlimited coffee. All for $11.00 and change, can't beat that. Lots of regulars, all greeted by name. While we were there I noticed a sign talking about a Chinese food special. Sounded good, I will have to give it a try, they offer takeout.

I had a breakfast wrap with hash potatoes and bottomless coffee for about $18 plus tax and tip. Wrap and potatoes tasted good, large portions I couldn't finish. Coffee was very good. Service was good too. UPDATE: I have visited once a week or so for the last nine months. Every meal has been tasty, and the staff are top notch, and greet me by name. Highly recommended.

I don't often gush about a place but here we go. Food, excellent flavour, served fast, hot. And lots of it. Service, exceptional, fast, sweet, attentive. Atmosphere, definitely a little Cafe, buy don't change a thing.

Poor value for money spent, prices out of line with this type of restaurant, and, we were presented with what amounted to left overs.

Lunch was not what we expected. In fact the Chinese style Chow-Mein with sweet and sour pork and spring roll proved inedible.

The pork portion was ok, the noodles had obviously been reheated several times, were rubbery and stuck together. The "spring" roll was filled not with greenery, but with the pulp that greenery becomes when it's been frozen and thawed several times. It had the consistency of toothpaste.

They sell a $20 hamburger here. The average meal price now tops 15 dollars. The want 2.60 for a cup of coffee and 60 cents per refill after. If you order the $20 burger, have coffee and decide to eat a dessert as well, you can easily blow 35 to 40 dollars on lunch with taxes and tip, this in a place that has model airplanes dangling from the ceiling as decor and has not seen any sort of updating in more than 20 years.

For 35 dollars you can have lunch at the Vine in Cowichan Bay or at the Genoa Bay Cafe. That $35 also spends rather nicely at One More Sushi, The Duncan Garage, or the Woodland Chinese restaurant. $35 spent at any of those establishments will leave you feeling overfed.

Yes, it's relatively clean and tidy. Yes the service is friendly. (Our server was rather incurious as to why plates full of "food" went back to the kitchen, indicative of the sort of "professional but unconcerned friendliness" you'll find.)

So, one sad and sorry little star for an establishment we used to frequent once a month, but have been away from for a rather long while. We had intended to go to Woodland for our Chinese style meal, but they were closed. Our fault then, for making a rather stupid second choice.

Very...

We were on the hunt for somewhere to eat while we were in Duncan on Sunday. We often go to places that are not corporate, i.e. not a chain. We had been here once before for a snack and it was OK. (service and prices were great) We needed lunch and my wife had some pancakes and after asking what the server would order on the menu I ordered the "Mexican burger special"

Food: The "Mexican burger" and fries; The only thing I could see that was "Mexican" was some salsa, other than that the burger appeared to be pre-made (frozen) but ok for the pricepoint. $16 ish. The fries were very good, as they appeared to be fresh cut, or a good quality frozen. I did not care for the bun, but I like a more simple bun. I had a coffee as well, and was to weak for my taste.

Overall impressions of the burger: Given the nature of the restaurant I would say, tasty overall, but would have liked the Mexican burger was more than a regular burger with cheese coupled with salsa (mild at that) I would have tried just the regular bacon and cheese burger. The fries were tasty, the coffee was week tasting, but would rate OK.

I would go back again and try another menu item.

Service: I rated 4 out of 5 simply because it took longer to pay our bill when we were done, but I also admit that it was busy. The service itself from the moment we walked through the door was great.

Atmosphere: I really liked the look of the place, I was in the mood for a quirky diner and that is what I got, model plans on the ceiling and pictures on the...
