Beleive all the 1-2 star reviews on here, im pretty easy going with restaurant experiences and this was something else.
Im pretty sure the good reviews are coming from tourists that have no frame of reference regarding what the west coast has to offer as far as japanese cuisine.
Easily the worst restaurant experience ive had in canada bar none.
11$ for two bizarley flavored miso soups with previously frozen tofu (dry and spongey) to start.
I ordered a salmon don and what came was something i had never seen before labelled as a don at any sushi restaurant. It was essentially a cooked salmon teryaki bowl, skin on. Not the end of the world, restaurants have different interpretations of different menu items, so i asked to get it to go and showed a photo of what i meant to order.
At that point i proceeded to get gaslit by the server, insisting i specifically asked for the cooked fish (i dont like any fish that isnt raw, and would never order anything cooked), i stated i never asked for cooked fish, but im just looking to get the right one and take the first thing i ordered home to give to someone else who might like it. She doubled down and insisted im lying, everyone else at the table agreed with me and told her that i never asked for cooked salmon and she never asked me if i wanted the don bowl raw. She tripled down and said we are all remembering wrong and she is certain that she is right but that she will get me the one i want and walked away. While waiting for the new order i could hear the staff ripping into each other at the back and arguing with what was presumably some younger employee who didn't seem like he wanted to be there and i dont blame him with the treatment he was getting from what i assume were the owners.
10 mins later, i got the wild salmon don raw and to their credit, it was good. HOWEVER, after paying and leaving, i checked the receipt and surprise surprise, i was charged for an item that wasn't on the menu (i combed through their website to make sure) AND it was $33!!
I have never had a don bowl more than 25 bucks anywhere in vancouver and i love my sushi places.
So total two people paid almost $110$ for the worst miso soup ive ever had, an order i didn't want and the most overpriced (but decent) salmon don ive ever had... Alongside getting gaslit by an employee with a gleaming narcissistic smile, which i haven't had the pleasure of experiencing in a long time.

Read moreNot at all what we expected for a "Sushi" place. We ordered Salmon Don each expecting a raw salmon on white rice. What we received was cooked salmon slathered in teriyaki sauce. When we said that this wasn't what we expected, we were told that they specifically asked us if we wanted raw or cooked...which they didn't. Being gaslighted is annoying! I ate mine cooked, it wasn't good and had too much sauce. My son agreed to have his replaced by a raw version and take the cooked one to go. The raw one came quickly and it looked and tasted very good. When it came to paying, we ended up being charged full price for both cooked salmon dons and $33 for the replacement raw version! What?!? We ended up spending $100 for 2 miso soups, which were terrible with tofu that was previously frozen and tasting spongy, 2 terrible salmon dons, 1 tea and 1 juice. After seeing how much we were charged for this mediocre meal, we walked away very disappointed and will not go there again even though we live in the area.
A note to owners, if you present your customer with a disappoint dish and they return it and order a replacement, don't take it as an opportunity to charge them exorbitant price for the replacement dish plus charge them for the dish they didn't want in the first place. Also, don't tell people that you specifically asked them something at the time of order when you didn't, that's just very bad customer service. We spent quite a bit in local restaurants and it would have cost you saying: "sorry for the confusion, we can replace this order with a raw version even thought that one costs $13 more on our menu". For $13 and one returned don, you would have gotten hundreds of dollars in repeat business from our family. Building up a goodwill...
Read moreThe WORST restaurant i have been to in BC. I will rate ZERO star if i can. There is a vietnam woman who acts like a manager, she was being very rude to us once we entered the restaurant. First, she asked if we were from an asian tour and indicated that their restaurant is not fast food restautant so we may want to change a place to eat. Then i explained that me and my parents and my boyfriend are on our driving trip from Victoria. After that, we waited about 25 mins for four bowls of pho noodle soup and no one ever came to ask if we were doing well with the food. When i wanted to pay the bills, i noticed she just added 15% tips by herself and the reason was that some asians dont pay her tips? EXCUSE ME?? This is my first time having meal in Duncan, i was so damn surprised by her attitude and the way she discriminate asian people. 这是我在加拿大吃过最烂的餐厅 我在维多利亚这么多年没遇到过这么粗鲁的商家 服务很差 态度不礼貌 歧视亚洲人...
