Tuesday night with the final NBA game on. A group of us were seated at a table originally below and across from the TV in order to watch the game and enjoy our evening. There was six of us in total. Requested nicely if we could possibly have the volume up with the TV under us. Waitress was nice to ask for us but seemed so busy. Asked another fellow and immediately said “No chance” then left. No explanation. It’s the NBA final and they had the big screen down for this game. Why no sound? Asked about it and was told “it kills the vibe and there was a vote for no sound”. What vibe? Who voted? You have the game playing on the big screen...but no sound? Finally, after asking one last time about it, we were able to get the sound on for the last quarter. But sound was unfortunately only on one side of the pub. So we asked the waitress if we could move to the open bar to watch the last 10 minutes of the game. Waitress said yes that’s fine as long as we paid our tabs. We did so at the bar as we finished our meal and drink prior to moving. Bartender asked if we needed any drinks. We kindly declined as we had already BOUGHT drinks (I have the receipt as proof). A few minutes go by and he asked us again, we declined. Next thing we know, he is talking to the other waitresses and starts pointing at us seated at the bar. Shaking his head. My bf and I then confront him and said if he had a problem with us, then to tell us. Not to talk badly about us when we did nothing wrong. Complain all you want after we leave but not in front of multiple customers. Hot headed bartender then says, “Yeah you’re taking up my seats. I’m not making anything. Do you know how a bar works? Leave”. I am in disbelief at this and my bf told him off to use his 'big boy' words. Since he was acting like a child by complaining about his seats. Our other friends were also seated at the bar. He only complained to us and told us to leave after we confronted him about his poor customer service. Does he want someone else to baby their one drink at the bar? Or have us who actually purchased multiple drinks and food to stay? It’s funny because the bartender actually gave us the wrong beer when we were seated at our table. We weren’t charged for the one but he still got it wrong. We had 4 beers in total between the two of us. Our whole friend group that was there have all worked and are working in customer service. We have never in our life ever been treated with such disrespect. From a former server point of view this place is trash. The Mcdonalds across the street have better customer service. Who wants to be served with this kind of attitude? Let alone stay at a bar that only cares about money. We have gone to Brewsters for years and now we can NO LONGER recommend this place anymore.

Well… short of the long Beer Revolution was better. I understand the Brewsters brand was stronger; but the menu is far inferior and the beer selection is less exciting. Ownership is riding a dying horse. While this is clearly a maneuver to take two building leases and consolidate it down to one good business decision… it’s horribly short term. Brewsters, a brand aimed at Gen X and Baby Boomers; may survive the next 3-5 years… but beyond that will fall flat with millennials and younger generations who are looking for food and beverage offerings DIFFERENT from the already saturated market by competitors such as the Pint, Local, Central, Craft Beer Market, and others. Anywho… enough about business… Brewsters can’t be bothered to list the size of the pizza’s on their menu… want to freshen things up? Put the Beer Revolution pizzas on the Brewsters menu… they were actually worth dining in for. Happy Hour exists in a time slot which No ONE could capitalize on… 2-5 pm? Most of us work. Make Happy Hour actually something people can choose to stop by for after their 5:30 pm shift. Also wild that Beer Revolution staff have been instructed to be “enthusiastic” about the change. That I find interesting. Room has more people… congratulations… Currently also overstaffed somehow at the same time. I had 4 different waitresses in an hour. Overkill. Somehow there is less of a vibe with the decor… and I’m not even sure how that’s even possible… maybe just a sign of the times…wood, brick, and black paint… the 3 horsemen of nothingness (re:urban tavern) Food was fine. Nothing special. Waitress was exceptional (she came from Beer Revolution) Price “meh”. Middle of the mark… not overpriced. Brand building is important… and it’s disheartening to see them give up on the strong menu and concept that was Beer Revolution.

Despite the short week, it felt extra cumbrous so I decided to stop in for a quick bite to eat and a pint as it was en route home from work. A month or so ago, I had a Thai curry dish from here which was better than expected and so I was hoping to experience said dish; however, I was disappointed to find the menu had changed. What made up for that was the most amazing waitstaff I've had in a very long time! Mya was empathetic, sincere, and kind and hoped I would find something tantalizing regardless of the missing curry dish. She was attentive yet so laid back, answering all the questions I had about the menu and also beer selection. I ended up feeling so relaxed and at home, it was hard to leave. I had the Brewster burger (vegetarian version) with a side salad which was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms, pickle and cheddar were fantastic with the patty which had some unique spices. The side salad is a dish I'd order again as a main - it was so fresh, citrusy with pumpkin seeds, cranberries, cucumber, lettuce and tomato. The dressing was delicious. But again, I have to focus on how wonderful Mya made my experience! We ended up chatting for a while about common interests. She also brought me a sample of beer she thought I'd appreciate as we'd talked beer for a bit, prior to me ordering. Thanks to such a positive, interesting, uplifting soul, my weekend is off to a fantastic start! And Mya's little sketch at the bottom of my receipt is a treasure!!

I am am amending this review based on the recent renovations. Note, I didn't say Renovations AND improvements. First of all, the staff is still excellent amongst the best in the city and the food is still great for bar fare 5/5. That being said , the renovation (that took too long) can be described as bizarre at best. It seems they hired people who have no idea how a bar is supposed to go together. Adults do not want to sit at picnic tables folks. Indoors or Outdoors unless at a campground or it's a college bar and if that's a crowd you're going for you're a tad too expensive. That being said you still can't hang your coat at the bar and that's a bit of an oversight being this is Alberta... Picnic tables instead of patio furniture, with chairs with backs on them, on a patio is probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen or could think of someone thinking about if I'm going to sit on a patio I'm not going to sit on a bench with no umbrella and pay $9 a pint for the privilege, I'll probably Electic go someplace well, comfortable. .. Nope, I'm going to go to a park with a cooler. The AV system is amateurish, the flow of the room is terrible the tap layout after soaking me twice in the past 2 weeks because of no bleeder valves are installed on taps are installed badly, right at eye level with your bartender are amongst the worst I've ever seen. In short if the good folks of Brewsters paid anybody to do this they probably should be looking for a refund. The downstairs men's room is still a travesty but at least is white clean and neat now.And It should be mentioned the Upper Floor with the mezzanine railing that doesn't go all the way to the floor offers the opportunity to rain glass and liquid upon the people beneath it when a spill inevitably happens, this is a major concern . Still a great place to go, but they should have consulted people who actually know how design a bar and how it is supposed to work... It is my understanding that a renovation is supposed to raise the game of an establishment, not make it more comfortable for the Animal House crowd. An odd message sent fine establishment that won't play UFC because it doesn't want that kind of crowd.. 2/5 on the renovations sorry folks...
