Some great-some just okay.

I was going to go to the gym this morning, but instead went to Doughtnut Party (DP) and got a half dozen ($16) yeast doughnuts.

There were six flavours the day I was there (not sure if that changes-I was expecting more). I chose not to get the birthday cake with sprinkles doughnut, and instead went with two (pineapple) fritters. More about those later.

As you see can by the photos, the doughnuts are larger than the usual (these are on a standard pie plate).

I tasted a quarter of each one (about three bites) as I didn't want to end up in a diabetic coma. I bought these at about 8 a.m. So they were very fresh when they were tasted.

The flavours I got were...

Earl Grey and something-vanilla, I think. The first couple bites were quite bland and finally on the third bite I could taste the earl grey. This would be an exceptional flavour if it had a lot more earl grey taste. 3 stars

Tropical sugar. This was so good. It was a basic doughnut rolled in a tropical fruit flavoured sugar. I've never heard of tropical fruit sugar before. I'm not sure if DP make it themselves, or if it's something the buy pre-made. If that the case, then they really didn't put much imagination into it, but it's the taste that counts, and I give this flavour 4 stars.

Classic vanilla dipped. This one was overly sweet and exceptionally bland. Maybe if I'd eaten more of it, I may have tasted some vanilla, but again, it was so sweet without any discerning flavour (except yeast) that it would not have been enjoyable. 1 star.

Coconut. This baby was so covered in coconut that you couldn't even see the hole, yet, it still didn't have standout flavour. 2 stars.

Pineapple fritter. I would walk across scalding hot glass to get to one of these! I would workout at the gym for 23 hours and 55 minutes a day (leaving me 5 minutes to eat one) to work off one of these taste sensations.

It appears there's a new flavour daily. I don't know if I lucked out a got one of the better flavours, or if they're all this good (oddly, when the very nice and helpful lady serving me told me the flavour, I was almost disappointed that it wasn't apple, and thought, who messes with fritters? DP that who!)

So the first bite (and it wasn't really a bite- more a little blob that almost separated from the main fritter-was crunchy (and I mean hard and loud) with no pineapple in it whatsoever, but just enough glaze to make it tasty.

The next bite came from the main fritter, and it also had some crunch. Maybe I've been missing out all these years, but it didn't realize fritters were crunchy. So the second bite was also void of pineapple, but I could taste a hint of it. By now I was growing very fond of the texture of this thing. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside.

Third bite, I hit the pineapple mother lode. Not one, but two chunks in one bite! The tang of the pineapple and the sweetness of the glaze, along with the almost savoury dough, made this a fantastic frickin' fritter. 5...

Love the artsy twist on childhood favorites like the Confetti Square Platter doughnut and Nanaimo Bar doughnut — way less sweet than as a kid (a good thing)!

The preorder system on the website didn’t allow for multiple festive boxes in one transaction, causing some confusion and leaving us short by six, but management at the Brewery District location was amazing. They quickly did up the extras in time for our Christmas party. Delicious donuts and stellar service — thank you, the drive to Brewery from Ritchie was a little hassle. Highly recommend the festive box! Here’s a quick glimpse.

Confetti Square Platter 💁‍♂️ - nostalgic peanut butter glazed doughnut, topped with rainbow marshmallow & butterscotch confetti squares (contains peanuts)

Candy Cane Lane 🎅 - vanilla glazed doughnut, topped with a chocolate drizzle and decorated with festive candy M&M lights

Nanaimo Bar 🍫 - chocolate glazed doughnut, topped with housemade Yum Yum crumb and finished with a custard buttercream rosette (contains walnuts)

Holiday Cookie Party 🍪 our classic bday cookie crumble doughnut with a holiday twist; finished a jolly red buttercream rosette and crushed peppermint candy canes!

Raspberry Pistachio Holiday Bun (v) 🎄 - the DP maritozzo, an Italian-inspired doughnut spread with raspberry jam, filled with whipped “cream” and topped with chopped pistachios and a dusting of icing sugar (contains pistachios)

Popular Witch 🧙- strawberry rose glazed doughnut, topped with a Wicked tasty cookie crumble and a duelling green apple and cotton candy buttercream rosette. Finished with crispy...

Can’t say enough good things about Donut Party. I’ve been meaning to write this reviews for months but always forget to include pictures along with the review so here it is! The owners and workers are by far the nicest people you will meet. A few months ago me and a few friends came around during closing time (they already locked the doors) but when we knocked, the owners/workers opened it up for us and let us buy some of the doughnuts after hours. The funny thing is, we didn’t have enough cash to actually pay for half a dozen doughnuts ($18), we only had a 10 dollar bill amongst the friends since most of only carried a card, and since they closed up shop the register was already closed and counted for. So the owners gave us a generous offer, they told us since they were closing up shop and had to get rid of that days doughnuts they would just accept the $10 in turn for the half a dozen, plus we would have to share in our social media accounts! Unfortunately none of us remembered to actually write a review (oops!), so here is the long deserved 5 star rating for this establishment. Absolutely love Doughnut Party, of course I’ve been raving about the service but the quality and taste of the doughnuts are creative, unique, and absolutely a hit with the...
