I was on a tight schedule so I wanted some fast food. Food I could get fast. I had never tried Church's so I went in. There were only two cars in the drive-through as I walked up. No line inside so I went straight up to the counter. The clerk served someone a meal and then came to ask for my order. A simple two-piece combo with coleslaw. All the chicken was already cooked and displayed on the pass-through window. So were the biscuits. The coleslaw was already prepped and sitting in the fridge right in front of me.
I filled my drink and then proceeded to wait. I watched the staff struggle to fill a couple of other orders for people waiting in booths and a couple more through the drive-through. Then they repacked an order "to go" that was incorrectly prepped for dine-in. I waited eight minutes to have someone hand me items that were already cooked and ready to go before I walked in the door.
The food was cooked in anticipation of a sale before I got there. Dozens of original recipe pieces and dozens of spicy pieces. Dozens of biscuits too. Most of which were still there and ready for dozens of customers who must have been expected to arrive after me. Eight minutes is a long time in a fast food restaurant. Just try watching a McDonald's for eight minutes and count how many people get served, you'll begin to understand.
I got my food. It was hot. The biscuit was good. The original recipe chicken I ordered was bland. Did they leave all the herbs and spices in Kentucky? Did Popeye corner the market on flavour? Was I going to be late for my appointment? I don't really have an answer to the first two questions. I will just go to Kentucky or visit Popeye next time I want chicken. Maybe Mary Brown has room at her table.
Update: It's 4 days later and I am in a Popeye's. The server here had my order on the tray and handed it to me before I could get to the fountain to...
Read moreI only ordered from here because I had hurt my tooth and was looking for mashed potatoes, I ordered thru skip and got the BOGO 3 PC chicken meal, with fries and onion rings + side of mash, gravy and two sauces. The mash + gravy where absolutely terrible, do not recommend, I assume its a unique acquired flavour that is added into the gravy but I do not like it, the mash, could have been edible but seems it was made with only water and no salt, :( no butter or milk, I just couldn't eat it, waste of 10$ but whatever. The chicken and sauce was good I only tried the BBQ one, got honey mustard but didn't open it, the biscuit was ok, my partner didn't like it though, esp since there was no good gravy, drink was ok, would be great if they had a larger size. If you're ordering for two I suggest 4-5 PCs max, with sides or 6 if no side. Fries and onion rings didn't seem fresh, kind of cold and stale but the flavour + texture was good, likely best if reheated in the air fryer for a few mins. yes the chicken is really soft, some people may not like it, thankfully for me it was soft enough to not hurt my teeth and was pretty tasty with or without sauce, I got mine mix spice he got original, at least I was able to eat something, after the mash potato failure.
Suggestions for the restaurant: -Make plain gravy for regular people, and offer your special gravy as an upgrade. -State that the Mashed potatoes are made with water and maybe add an option to add a bit of butter or some milk? -Larger drink options. -Make sure sides are...
