Three of us went for brunch. Two of us had eggs Benny, eggs medium, one with extra sauce. Both orders were cooked to perfection--although not not as hot as it could have been--the flavour well made up for it. I could have swam in the sauce--and was glad I ordered extra, as every little (and I mean baby) potato ended up doused in the sauce--not the specialty ketchup mine came with-yet not my co-orders-she didn't get any -so I gave her mine-as I had enough with a the extra sauce on the eggs. The order came with a little jar of fresh fruit and it was all perfectly ripe.
So, on to to smoked meat sandwich... This diner is a huge fan of smoked meat, and has had many elsewhere, so when he read on the menu that their's was made in-house, he was anxious to try it. He ordered it with fries.
It came in quite a nice presentation and we all thought "this is going to be good", but the look after one bite left us wondering. He kept on saying the fries were incredible, and we tried them, and they were.
He slowly tried to eat the sandwich, and after a few bites, and really eating nothing but fries admitted that the fries and the ketchup were good, but the sandwich, which he intended to take away was awful. We decided because he's a finicky eater that it couldn't have been that bad, so we all tried it, and yes, it was that bad. For bisque, it was extremely dry. I appreciate they use lean meat, but the consistency was like a hotdog.
So, when the waitress came to clear the plates she noticed he had left more than 3/4 of his sandwich. We weren't going to make a big deal of it,-just realizing this was a good place for brunch and nothing more...
Well, after telling her what our issues were, she apologized and escalated to management. She promised we would not charged for the meal in question, and she was right.
No sooner then we were satisfied with the service--the manager came over to offer his apologies. He didn't want to hear how wonderful the rest of the meal was, he only wanted to know where they could improve.
He gave us coupons for extra dining and the promise we would leave satisfied the next time.
All I can say, is this place is outstanding in customer satisfaction!
UPDATE
We went back to use the coupons and were more impressed this time around--all three of us.
We tried the carrot cake pancakes, and although (as we found out after waiting 30 minutes for our food) they take a long time to cook--and are worth the wait. I don't really like carrot cKe, and I hate pancakes, but I have to say, these we incredible.
We also split an order of the lobster Benny-the lobster was a bit rubbery, but it was still an exceptional taste treat.
We also tried the chicken waffles, and while the other at the table really liked it, I had wished we order it without the sirachi (sp) sauce. To me it was way too overpowering.
We also tried to pig and fig sandwich and it was very good.
Lastly we had the apple pie skillet. It was everyone's favourite. It appeared the crust is made of Filo pastry which was outstanding, and the filling was exceptionally well spiced.
So, two times out of two, this placed has...
Read moreThis is NOT an attempt to ruin reputation but I find well below subpar service at a local establishment like Hart’s Table & Bar is inexcusable. Yes I’m a regular, as it’s the closest decent bar near my home. My second visit on a Saturday night with live music was not quite what I expected from some of my previous visits. (Note management: the live performers mic. Volume is far too loud). Apart from that, My companion and I had to ask for service when we were not approached for over 20 min., after seated. Asked one of the suites gentleman if he can help us and he kindly took our order and passed the table over to another waitress. After which drinks arrived (note management: the wine glass was not only sticky with many finger marks as well as residue of LIPSTICK on the rim of the glass!) We were also graciously told by the waitress that the kitchen is out of Brie. I’m used to having my beer poured by previously experienced waitress at Hart’s , but that was also neglected. Some minutes later we ask for another menu from another passing by waitress and if she can possibly bring a clean wine glass, we receive the menu but the CLEAN GLASS did not arrive, but SURPRISINGLY shortly after the Brie appetizer arrives. 3 clap emojis* We ask for the bill after an hour being annoyed by the obnoxiously loud mic. and poor service, we understand you are busy but still not an excuse with the premiums you charge and the reputation you uphold to. Anyways that did not arrive, 15 min passed and we got up to ask for it at the door in which the hostess said your server will be right with you and guess what! She did NOT SHOW UP. The suited “manager” who initially took our order walked by and I had to ask for the bill again, after paying and communicating our concerns with him, he offers to pay the bill. The gesture is appreciated but we did not come out for a free meal, people go out for “service” because that’s what you charge for and Hart’s should not lack that, as they hold the reputation for providing a “harty” service. Again my intention with this review is not to ruin reputation and I’m a passionate local consumer and I expect my favourite places to live up to their original standards. Anyways, this feels like a waste of my...
Read moreCalled ahead to ask if they allow patio pups, a very friendly guy said they just cleared out the lunch rush and to come on down. It’d be a 5 star review if it was left at that. Unfortunately when we arrived staff seated us at a south facing table, with no umbrellas in 26 degree heat. I started to feel my back and arms burning and noticed my dinner mates face was getting really red so I asked Mark, our waiter if he could get us an umbrella, as I had just seen another employee move one to another couple who had also just arrived with their puppy. After a glib remark from Mark along the lines of how other customers would lose their mind if he took their umbrellas”, I pointed out one that was folded down and not in use. He just ignored me mumbled something and walked away. After 10-15 minutes of watching him coming and going I asked if he was going to be able to grab it and then he said something along the lines of how I’d have to wait. Then later he said it was too heavy. Meanwhile our skin is burning and we can’t go inside because we had my puppy with us, even though I was reassured (with enthusiasm) that they accommodate customers with pets. To top it off taking our food and drink order took longer than even an average long-wait time, meanwhile he’s just visibly socializing and lingering. After paying the bill we asked him for a box to pack up my meal, 5-10minutes goes by with him just coming in and out, chatting up bigger tables/tips. I went up to him and go “bud, are we gonna get that box or what?” As aloof as can be, he clearly couldn’t care less and goes “oh, yeahhh”. I seriously think he was high or something, otherwise how can you be that bad at your job. So, overall my first time there included a sunburn and a waiter who had no concept of personal space, and came off high key sexist👍🏼
All the other staff were seriously delightful, and the food and drinks were delicious once the order was eventually placed!
Edit: I read another review and posted it in the pictures where a woman seems to have had a similar experience.. who wants to guess her waiter was Mark too. Hart’s please talk to him about his verbal and non verbal communication towards...
