Been a long time Jerusalem Shawarma supporter. I've been to many locations in Calgary, and all of the Edmonton locations. This is my 2nd time at the downtown location and will not be returning because there is no value for the $24 I paid. The price has increased dramatically for a platter and this time I recieved almost no meat at all. I doubt I barely even recieved 60-70 grams worth of beef on my platter. I felt like I got robbed.
When the guy was making my platter, I asked him, "is that all the beef I'm seriously getting?" And he just stared blankly at me and said "Yes." I replied, that looks like a very small amount of beef for $24." And he just passed my plate down the line. I tried to get some onions and tomatoes for on top of my beef and they tried to rush me right passed and I managed to get a small amount of onions from them before they were rushing me to sit at my table.
I've never had an issue at another Jerusalem shawarma with being treated like this.
The value just isn't here any more. The price of the platter is up, and the meat quantity is abysmal. I'm basically paying $24 for a small plate of rice and salad with what I would say a little sprinkle of beef on it.
There's no reason for Jerusalem Shawarma to be ripping customers off like this. They've got NINE locations in Calgary and have expanded to FIVE locations in Edmonton in just 3 short years. So clearly, the owners are doing very very well financially.
This was such an egregious rip off for the price I paid that I'm contemplating never eating here again. I'll never choose this downtown location again, which sucks because I live downtown. And it's now going to be a while before I attempt to eat at any of the other locations in the city.
Its a huge shame because I've been a massive supporter of this business over the years, sometimes I've eaten at the locations multiple times a week and I ALWAYS stop at Jerusalem Shawarma in Calgary at Royal Oak for a wrap if I'm driving through Calgary.
I always chose Jerusalem Shawarma because of both quality and VALUE. And after tonight's experience, I just don't see the value at all any more, which is the most important factor for a restaraunt to provide, because so very few restaraunts give value any more.
It's a sad day when you no longer want to indulge in one of your favorite dining experiences. But paying $24 for what I recieved was a terrible experience, feeling ripped off by a franchise you've supported for many years. That is an experience I will never...
Read moreBetter locations out there ( Windermere, south common, west end) was going to get a family platter for 3 for $75 , the cashier told me if he rang things in separate it would cheaper for saving me money I tipped $12.00 . When I got the food it was less than 1/2 the amount of the family platter . I went back to the counter and let them know it wasn’t enough or what I ordered he looked at me with the blank stare. I then ordered more meat (not meals) 2 chicken kabob , 2 steak kabob & beef from family meal.this was over $30 While I was waiting an employee came with a QR code to review . When my phone was ready to review he started selecting all 5 stars on my phone in my hand . I told him not to do that and to let me review it . I then told him about the above story and he shrugged his shoulders and walked away. While waiting for the additional meat order I told a 3rd employee with no answer. When the meat order was done , it was incorrect and not what I ordered . They gave fries and baklava . They did offer to remake but I was at the 40-45 minute of waiting and the first order was getting cold and simply did not have the time . It’s a shame not 1 employee could help out as what I wanted for 75 I paid over 120 for. The cashier assured me it was the same amount of food . The family platter is over 500 g of meat they have shy of 200g they simply don’t answer and walk away . My choice was to leave without enough food , add more for an additional cost to me ( even when assured it was the same amount of food ) the staff will do nothing when called out for their scamming . Skip this location . I am positive the reviews are forced as if I didn’t take my phone away they would have submitted 5 stars...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked in, the warmth and friendliness of the staff set the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional dining experience. While I was still deciding on what to order, we were warmly greeted by Khammod (apologies if I’ve misspelled the name), who welcomed us with a beautifully aromatic tea. It was the perfect before having a meal.
I ordered the beef and lamb mixed plate—generous portions, beautifully plated, and absolutely delicious. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying, and I truly have no complaints. Shortly after our food arrived, Khammod brought out freshly baked warm khubz? (pita bread, I believe), adding an extra touch of authenticity to the meal. His attentiveness stood out—he noticed how much we enjoyed the tea and thoughtfully left a full pot for us to enjoy.
Once we had finished our meal, Khammod returned with a lovely surprise: lime ginger tea and a small plate of sweet baklava, which was a delightful treat. Just when we thought we couldn’t eat another bite, another staff member came by with fresh falafel—one for each of us to try. Though we were full, we couldn’t resist indulging a bit more.
To top it all off, Khammod prepared a to-go box for me without me even asking—a small but appreciated gesture that speaks volumes about the service here. From start to finish, we felt genuinely cared for. The food was phenomenal, and the hospitality was even better.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anyone, and I look forward to returning—hopefully with a better grasp of the dish names and the proper spelling of wonderful staffs name who made our experience...
