We went to Tutti Fruitti in Oliver Square for dinner. Only 1 other table of customers for about the first 20 minutes, then it was only us. Only 1 skip the dishes driver came in when we paid. So none of the below was because they were crazy busy.
You could hear people in the kitchen loudly arguing, to the point where the one other table asked the server what they were arguing about.
Kids meals that we ordered were supposed to come with toast and fruit. We didn't receive either. So I asked and the server said it only comes with toast and milk, then asked if we wanted the toast. She brings the toast and I ask to see the kids menu. She brings it and I point out where it says it comes with fruit. She goes to the kitchen them comes back saying they're out of fruit. Then she comes back 2 minutes later with fruit.
I asked for hollandaise sauce on the side. It was forgotten, which happens all the time at restaurants. She brought it out and it was cold. So after trying to eat it to not be difficult I asked if she could warm it up. She brings it to the kitchen and I could hear them complain about it.
Kids meals are supposed to be free with their dinner promo. They charged us for it and my spouse didn't notice , so he paid. I brought her the bill and point it out. She tried to argue at first because she misunderstood which promo I was talking about, but then realized I was right. THEN she said they told her to etransfer me from her personal account because the owner wasn't there, and they'll just pay her back. Instead of issuing a refund or giving us cash. I sincerely hope they actually give her that money.
There is a big gap between the men's bathroom door and the doorframe because the door is crooked. In the women's bathroom, one stall (far left) can't lock because it's also crooked or maybe too small.
We will absolutely never go to the Oliver Square...
Read moreIt seems that the owners/operators of this particular Tutti Frutti location are cutting corners and cheaping out in noticeable areas while their prices remain abhorrently high for the generally mediocre quality of the food. Perhaps the most noticeable indicator of this is that the syrup is no longer provided in pitchers directly on the table. Instead, you're provided with one little plastic sauce-container of syrup on the plate when your food arrives. If this isn't bad enough, the syrup is noticeably thin and lacking flavour --- it has obviously been watered down. The scrambled eggs were inedible -- I suspect they use liquid egg whites instead of fresh eggs since it's cheaper and has a longer shelf life. The crust of my french toast was burnt to smithereens, but seemed to be undercooked in the centre. It was also terribly greasy. My nutella-banana crepe was a generous portion, however, the amount of nutella has clearly been reduced compared to past visits and other locations, again, likely to cut corners and reduce costs. The water was lukewarm. As for the service, while the server we had is very polite and helpful, we found ourselves to be seldom if ever checked in with despite being the only people in the restaurant. We waited forever for the bill. I recommend everyone steer clear of this location, and instead eat at a restaurant that takes pride in the food and service they provide. It's not hard to find a breakfast place that is not only infinitely better, but...
Read moreI rarely post reviews of places, but as someone who has been eating at this location for years now, I and good friends who also frequent this location noticed a downturn in quality in the last few months. What used to be full portions that matched the price look sad on the plate (especially re: the hashbrowns), fruit portions have gotten smaller and lower quality, and service is inconsistent and it feels like some of the servers haven’t been properly trained/supported by management. One positive, I will say, is that staff is very friendly.
When I was there last (May 18th) it was near impossible to flag our server for help for coffee/napkins/payment even when it was calm. As well, my order was messed up twice. By the second incorrect meal (an hour and a half after my parents got their food) I was just too hungry to care and ate the meal offered. As I finished my meal, a missing portion of my meal (scrambled eggs) was brought to our table.
Service was also very slow when I took some family here for breakfast in March. A friend of mine who also really loves the food here had a bad experience in February and agreed with what I had listed above.
Ownership or management must have changed since January or something like that because for the longest time this was one of my absolute favourite places to bring out of town friends and family :( it really breaks my heart because the food and service used...
