My boyfriend and I went to Tony’s for dinner and the restaurant was less than a quarter full. We ordered a pizza to our table and another one to go. We were sitting there and so excited to eat the pizza since it used to be a staple here in Edmonton.
We arrived at 7pm, sat down and quickly ordered one pizza to eat at the restaurant and another one to go.
About 40 minutes later, a pizza came out that resembled ours and was dropped off at another table near by. I said to my boyfriend, I think that’s our pizza. It was odd because the other party arrived after us and it seemed like the food was taking a very long time. All of a sudden, I over heard the other party at the table near us say, ‘why is there only pepperoni on half of our pizza’. I spoke up and said because it’s supposed to be our pizza. The other party immediately realized it wasn’t there pizza and we immediately got up to speak to our server.
We approached that bar area where all the servers were congregating in conversation. We addressed the issue with them and the various servers and bar staff barely apologized for the mix up. Pursuant to their meek apology, they told us to wait because they were going to figure something out. We objected since we were on a time line with plans at 8pm. The Chef/manager came out and attempted to address the situation by saying, ‘Hold on, were doing something for you guys.’ We ended up waiting at the bar for a few more minutes without any server/front of house staff trying to fix the situation. We asked the waiter of the other party who delivered the incorrect pizza what was happening and he rudely said ‘They’re doing something for you just wait.’
Our other pizza that we ordered ‘to go’ was not even in the oven at this time. Tony’s restaurant is terribly disorganized and poorly run. We decided to leave immediately and cancelled the to go pizza. We paid for our $3 pop (they didn’t offer to cover it) and left. As we were walking to our cars, the waiter who delivered our pizza to the wrong table ran out after us and offered a measly $30 gift card to cover the to go pizza we cancelled.
This was such a disappointing experience. I’ve been to Tony’s in the past and the pizza and service was usually great. My boyfriend hadn't been there in over 10 years and was very much looking forward to dining there.
Since then, things have gone dramatically downhill.
Tonight, the restaurant was less than a quarter full and fully staffed. There was no excuse for the level of incompetence and poor service that we experienced. If Tony’s keeps this up, I’m confident they will be out of business sooner than later. Edmonton has a vibrant dining scene where competition is stiff and good customer service is critical, often setting restaurants apart. If Tony’s continues in this fashion, the restaurant won’t last in this economy when dining out is considered a luxury. If you want a timely, delicious pizza that’s made to order, I would recommend Buco, Allegro or Ragazzi - not Tony’s...

True.
Not only is their food absolutely fantastic - and their pizza, the best damn representation of a true New York slice in Edmonton, but their customer service is without a doubt EXCEPTIONAL as well. I was feeling under the weather, so instead of dining in the restaurant tonight we ordered Tony's through DoorDash. However, DoorDash mislabeled our order and the wrong pizza was delivered. Tony's is so great that normally, I would be non-plussed...however, the particular pizza we ordered adhered to someone's dietary restrictions. So, while Tony's doesn't normally deal with DoorDash mishaps, when I called them to tell them what had happened, they were incredibly sympathetic. To make up for the delivery mistake, not only did they make us a fresh pizza, they gave us the extra AND the manager hand-delivered our pie because he knew I was sick. Tony's is a true neighbourhood gem and a standout on the Edmonton pizza scene, I highly suggest coming here for a great human experience and a well-crafted meal. In addition, I noticed that someone had mentioned a racial bias in their review (and while I cannot speak to anyone's individual experience) my familial heritage falls within the visible minority and we have never received anything less than a wonderful reception. Keep it up, Tony's. We...
Read moreReally recently, my partner and I have been getting take out from Tony's. We found the place on doordash and now I order to-go straight through the restaurant.
First, I want to say that Tony's fills such a huge hole in the culinary scene in Edmonton. Having New York style pizzas, and incredible Sicilian pies, is a massive deal to me, it is challenging to find good New York style pizza in the city. Regarding the food: it is just wonderful. My partner and I find ourselves craving the big New York style pizza often now, and I have to say that even past the amazing taste, crust, and consistency, the price is really reasonable. Last night we ordered out and I got a marinara pie: divine. A tomato pie is not something that you find in many places, it is really a rare treat, and I have to say that the Tony's version is fabulous. Salty, tangy, satisfying and crisp. We have had three different pizzas from Tony's multiple times, everything was great.
I have never dined in but I have picked up: the location and the people are both amazing. Love the vibe of the pizza joint, it feels intimate and welcoming, lots of dark wood and it feels like you could hunker down in there forever. All of the staff have been nothing but wonderful, exactly the kind of people you want to deal with. The folks in the kitchen are down to Earth and kind.
A stand up place, we...
