First things first—the back entrance is wild. It looks super sketchy and had me wondering if we were in the right place. But once you step inside, it’s a different story. The restaurant is clean, quiet, and peaceful... maybe a little too quiet. I almost felt like I had to whisper, but hey, that’s part of the charm.
We started with the prawn and yam tempura. Overall, very good—served hot and flavorful, though I personally like my tempura a bit crispier. Still tasty and satisfying.
For sashimi, we ordered the deluxe set. The tuna melts in your mouth. The salmon was so good I could’ve easily eaten 50 pieces. The snapper was fresh and clean tasting. Mackerel isn’t my personal favorite, so I’ll stay neutral on that one. LOL.
We also got two rolls—the Dragon House Roll and the Rainbow Dragon Roll. Both were absolutely delicious. The Dragon House had a rich, creamy flavor from the chopped scallop and mayo, balanced nicely with the kick from the wasabi mayo. The Rainbow Dragon was layered beautifully with fresh fish and just the right amount of spice, giving every bite a mix of texture and flavor that really worked.
Service was fast and super friendly.
Don’t let the parking lot entrance scare you off—it’s worth the stop. 10 out of 10, would absolutely recommend. I’ll...
Read moreWe were excited to try a new Japanese restaurant with very decent ratings. We visited one afternoon weekend and it was fairly busy. We were given a table right away and I could smell the residue that came from a dirty table cloth. Not the best sign. We were given menus promptly but waited over 10+ minutes for water and to order (to be fair, there was only 1 server). We ordered some standard combos, side dishes, and two orders of sashimi rice. The portions were not large...the least impressive was the rice. My friend commented that part of her rice was dry with her teriyaki (the sauce was also very watery and more sweet and without a nice soya glaze). The rice was quite damp and the rolls were therefore squashed ...unfortunately, I've seen better looking rolls at grocery stores. The sashimi rice was quite small...and the fish fairly thinly sliced with pretty much no garnish except a few sprinkles of bonito flakes...no tamago or fish roe, etc...it was quite disappointing. While we were not expecting a gourmet meal...some of the quality of the food is better at places like Tokyo Express. If you are looking for a quick bite....this is okay...and the server tried his best...but yes, it was not really up to our expectations for the...
Read moreThe rolls here are absolutely delicious! I highly recommend both the Edmonton Dragon Roll and the Yellow Dragon Roll, both rolls were fresh and tasted amazing, especially with the spicy mayo! The Takoyaki was also very tasty, so definitely try that for an appetizer. If you're stopping in for dinner I can't say it enough, GET THE YAKI-UDON, it's so good, and it comes out on a sizzling tray! I wish they offered it for their all day menu, but definitely would go back at dinner time just to get it and a roll.
The only critique I have for this restaurant is that they don't have any music playing, I say that because it is so quiet when there isnt many people in there, but do not be discouraged, the music is not a dealbreaker, the prices for the rolls are on par with sushi prices, they're fresh, and their staff is so friendly and welcoming. This is definitely my husband and I's new sushi spot, I wish they had more business, they definitely deserve it.
Update:
I recently went back and they had music playing! I also switched it up and got some gyoza and it was delicious. It was pan-fried in case anyone is wondering, I know some places offer it deep fried. All in all, a great...
