Very unimpressed with the service I received today at Mercante. I visited on Monday, November 25th at approximately 12:45. I ordered a margarita pizza and paid the $12.60. I was then presented with a receipt as proof of my payment. A few minutes later, while I was waiting for my pizza I was called upon by an employee and told that I had not paid for my order, even though I paid for the order several minutes earlier, I was told that I would have to pay again. The employee said order 402's payment had not gone through, and despite my receipt showing proof that I was order 400 and had paid, the employee made me pay again. At this point I have paid $25.20 on my Mastercard and have paid for an order that is not mine. A few minutes later the student who was indeed order 402 was found. The employee disregarded the fact that she made me pay twice and asked the student with order 402 to pay again. I then requested a refund and was told that they could not do that. I was told that if I want a refund I can walk across the street to harvest and have my Mastercard refunded there. As a student, I was hoping to grab lunch quickly before heading to my class, I do not have the time to go to another store entirely and explain that they should refund me because of Mercante's mistakes. After explaining that I did not have the time to do this as I needed to get to class I was told that they would simply give me cash as a refund, which is unacceptable as I paid using my Mastercard. Another employee told the first employee that they could not refund me cash either as the till would then be short ; despite requesting a refund on my Mastercard, I was essentially given $12.60 in cash and told to go away. I am extremely frustrated and embarrassed with this situation and will likely not be returning to Mercante. I would like to receive a follow...
Read moreMercante's a very intimidating restaurant, it took me weeks to build up the courage to step inside alone. I'm almost positive it was designed specifically for aesthetic. You walk in, you wait in line by a rope that's way too close to the door (people are squished together there) and you order. The ladies taking the orders were exhausted and their patience was wearing thin by the time I got there at around 4. I ordered the margherita pizza and was planning on getting a drink but I was rushed away. I wouldn't even have grabbed my receipt if the chick in front of me hadn't forgotten to take hers. Anyways I was waiting for my order on the wrong side (how the hell is anyone supposed to know where to go?) and as they called out pizza orders, one by one the people who showed up after me got their pizzas long before I did. About 20 minutes later I got my pizza, only after the lady squished and folded my pizza to get it to fit in the box. I had to wait about 10 minutes before I could dig in but man, it was worth it. The first three slices (if you can call them that, they were poorly cut) were delicious. It's a very flimsy pizza but the crust is authentic Italian 👌🏼 I'm giving it a 3 overall because the service is intimidating, the set up is confusing, and while the pizza is delicious it's really gross once it's cold, which is...
Read moreI'm confused at why more than half of the places in UBC are considered "overpriced" for students while there's most often a long line up at these places...If affordability is considered a major issue for rating then I would have rated every fancy restaurant 1 star since they are all essentially overpriced. While if price is out of one's range, simply avoid consuming at such a place seems to be the best solution. But rating come from people that do receive some sort of product / service, meaning that the prices, although not considered cheap, are acceptable to make a purchase anyways. Then the subsequent dissatisfaction should largely be due to lack of quality in product / services than price itself. Then again, if the prices in a lot of places are really that unfair, patrons would be less or would be lost soon and the price will be adjusted in order to make the business running. If that's not the case, then there's a reason in it keeping such a price - to be selective in its customer. Try to earn more money probably works better than rating badly about price in this case. I wonder if the overpriced comments in general are referring to products not being good as expected for the price or just about the price itself. The former complaint probably...
