This was the second time coming here for the all you can eat pasta. Unfortunately, the policies have changed and a beverage and gratuity is added, very fair, since I was told that some didn't tip, so the policy changed from this week. From this visit, the sauce amount has decreased, and the pasta has gone from al dente to harder, basically raw pasta.
The first plate of pasta was almost perfectly al dente but still slightly under what I preferred, and was still a treat to enjoy. After the first plate, I had asked if the pasta could be made softer for the next. They said that it would not be possible since the pasta is par-cooked. However, for the next 2 plates, the pasta got harder and harder until I tasted flour and I decided to cut into one. Well, it was raw inside (photo included). At this point after 2.5 plates of hard pasta, I didn't feel like asking for it to be remade since they told me before that it wasn't possible.
Overall, the food experience was marginally unacceptable after the first plate. The service was good and the sports bar atmosphere was excellent. I recommend the rigatoni alla vodka sauce for the all access pasta since it tastes the best, pesto the second.
After the complaint, I was told there had been a miscommunication that the pasta couldn't be cooked longer, and the drink cost was taken off...
Read moreI’ve been a client here for over a year and it’s the best place in the eastern part of Vancouver so far, based on my experience at different diners, bars, cafes and Micheline star restaurants. The food is great and it’s not uncommon for a cook to hear one’s request and adjust the dish accordingly.
I’ve adopted a lot of my new favourite dishes during the course of one year here, namely, Big Sugar Ribs (especially with mashed potatoes), astonishing medium ribeye - best in class, the salmon and sizzling brownie.
Generally I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the taste of the food, but here it tastes different, particularly because of the end-to-end experience from when you enter the restaurant to when you leave it. The staff’s friendliness amplifies the taste ten-fold - always willing to accommodate your request, give guidance and they actually talk about the food in away that makes your brain exert all sorts of positive social hormones.
For example, Maddy, - always a great girl to have a convo with at the same time doesn’t talk much when it’s unnecessary and can easily spot if you’re busy or not. This applies to all the waitresses, bartenders and chefs I used to engage with.
Highly recommend this place if you want to feel like home and have a high-quality food.
P.S. try chicken tenders if it’s your...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped in to SI at UBC last night and ordered the truffle fries. We were very, very disappointed with what we got: a plate heaping with a pyramid of skinny, flavourless, overdone, cold and uninspiring, barely recognizable fries. We were really hungry and did not want to send them back, as our waitress was lovely, we but kicked ourselves later that we did not. We are certain we got the very old, leftover fries that had been sitting in their grease for God knows how long. There was no soft center on any of the dried up wormy things they served us last night. And they were cold through and through. We also questioned the puffy, tasteless mass of y recognizable white fluff perching atop the “fries”…. We always finish our fries but not this time; we could just not fathom having to swallow another one of them. To top it off, it was the Saturday before Halloween and there was not one Halloween decoration up. Some of the waiters were in cat and Hot Dog costumes but everything else about the place was uninviting, stark and lacked any semblance of comfort. To top it all off, we found the prices to be very high, especially for a university campus. Overall, it is no wonder there were so few customers there… We will...
