Osmow's Shawarma — Restaurant in Essa

Service: Staff are very friendly and personable. My food did not take long to prepare.

Restaurant: very clean but could use wifi if you bring children. Others say it’s the best shawarma in town but the reality is IT IS THE ONLY ONE! So you won’t be able to compare.

Price: for what you get without “upgrading” it is not worth it. They make you pay for everything. Normally a platter comes with hummus and pita but you need to pay for them extra.

Food: This where my low rating comes from.

presentation: everything comes in styrofoam containers even if you eat in which I found strange. Normally for a platter you have everything together but here it is separate. I observed this very nice layout on plates in another review but I’m sure it was and employee because there wasn’t a plate in site.

+portions are decent.

quality.....well having eaten Mediterranean food in many places in Canada and the world I can honestly say this is the worst I have ever had. It is very much a franchise in taste. To be more specific:

garlic sauce tastes more like warm mayo with a light taste of garlic. Not even close to the real thing.

hummus tastes stale and they did not put any olive oil on it.

chicken lacks flavour and is mostly cooked on the pan and not roasted on the spit. They place a lit over the chicken and spray water to help it cook faster.

the rice tastes like it is mixed with chicken noodle soup powder and came precooked out of a can. There is only one option of rice. Normally you have the choice between vegetables mixed in or brown rice.

I’ve given this place a few chances thanks to a gentlemen that works there. His service is excellent . I have had a few issues but this gentleman made everything better. I don’t know if I’ll give you all a further chance at this point due to your customer service. I personally called your restaurant at 9:11 and arrived just before 9:30. I asked about the Philly chicken special and the woman on the phone was helpful and I advised that I will be coming in to place my order. To my surprise your location seemed to Be very clean and I was told that all the stoves were turned off. I really didn’t intend to write anything but the level of customer service was horrible. Employees didn’t seem willing at all. They advised me it will take too much time to turn the stove back on to make my meal. The most commercialized shawarma place I have ever seen! Sure the people who don’t know what a shawarma restaurant is might love this but clearly these guys have gotten too big to actually stick to their roots. The food is not really fresh at this location. They have students working their who are actually trying to cook the food too. And that is not a good combination. Kofta is dry because you have students who don’t know how to cook cooking it. Hummus is not mayo so it shouldn’t be just dropped into the shawarma like that when it should be spread onto the break before making the shawarma. All real shawarma places do this.
