Bâton Rouge Grillhouse & Bar — Restaurant in Gatineau

So we ate there on Friday, August 2nd 2024. We stopped by to pick up two meals to bring back to the hotel next door to Hilton which is skipping a hop away. So I ordered a full rack of rib plate with fries and my wife ordered chicken Santa Fe. We picked it up. They told us about 15 minutes. It took half an hour. Once we got our food we went back to the hotel, opened the two meals. My ribs were a bit crunchy on the ends. A bit dry under the sauce and the chicken was very hard. The pieces of chicken breast were like rock hard. The flavor was okay but the texture was not great. Hence the three star. I would have given four star but baton rouge all together. Don't have that same luxury feeling that you used to get when you'd go eat there. It used to be more like a high-class restaurant. Now I think the lighting is different. Everything is different so they changed their winning combo I guess. And now well, here's the comments you get for for doing these changes right? So I mean the food was all right. The fries were good but yeah so a few things. My wife orders the Santa Fe chicken. First. She orders my ribs with fries and then she orders her Santa Fe chicken. But they don't ask her what she wants as a side where to Santa Fe. So she ends up getting it with fries. You know because normally they ask you. So once you ordered her Santa Fe you know we're from out of town. We're picking up a meal we don't think of. She didn't think of asking the what to put as a side dish but they gave her fries either. They should have came back and asked her cuz they didn't. You know she didn't specify anything so they just took it upon themselves to give it fries. Maybe it was more convenient either way that was not good. They said 15 minutes when we got there it took a solid half an hour. Food was good like the flavor was good. Like I said the texture was not great. You know wasn't the full experience the price was I mean average you know was high but you expect it to be high in a restaurant like that and that's about it. The location also was a bit tricky to get to. There was parking next door to pharmacy only the way that it's positioned. I know there's other parking somewhere else it said, but it's hard to find. It's really not obvious when you're from out of town. So yeah all those things together didn't make it that great. We actually regretted it and said oh no, we should have gone to the hotel restaurant you know. So next time we're going to be eating at the hotel arrests we're not going to go out to Baltimore because it's not what...

This visit wasn't poor, wasn't bad but embarrassingly bad.

We arrive at the front door to see a notice posted saying they would have reduced hours the day beforehand for a staff party which is fine. We (a party of two) proceed inside and grab a seat at the bar as we normally do around this time of day which is around 12pm. After a few minutes we are approached by the hostess letting us know that they are short staffed and only have 1 server and would have to seat us at a booth. We happily move saying we would just like one quick drink.

We were sat in a comfortable booth by the window. Little did we know that there would be a 30 person reservation right beside us. To no fault of their own, the reservation would be doing presentations. We felt that we couldn't even have a conversation without interrupting this group. There were many other open tables in the restaurant.

Our server greeted us after about 15 minutes. She let us know that she had 6 tables sat all at the same time on top of the tables that she was already serving. We observed the big reservation to be unnoticed or even greeted for at least 30 minutes. They only had 4 menus to share between the whole party and were not even offered water to keep them occupied.

The manager/supervisor on duty seemed to be completely unfazed by the amount of guests coming in. He made no attempt to say hi or apologize to the large group for the wait for service. After about 30-45 minutes the manager/supervisor approached half of the party to take the order and again did not make any effort to apologize for the wait. The other half of the party simply had to wait longer for any sort of service without any sort of greeting. This had been about 45 minutes after arrival.

Our drinks finally arrive after 30 minutes and I have a very flat beer with no top off. We would wait another 15-20 minutes before being offered a machine to pay for our bill. During this time the large reservation beside us was presenting their awards. During one of the speeches a guests mentioned "I'm not even sure if we'll be able to eat here today."

Half of the party's appetizers came out before the other half had even put in their drink/food order. Again, the manager/supervisor came up to the other half of the table without any apology for the wait and simply started taking orders.

You have to park across the street and there are no parking instructions in the garage. I walked to restaurant in the pouring rain only be told to use this QR code which needed my plate number. I did not know my plate number as it's a new car and was told to walk back in the rain or be ticketed. I was told then could not put signs about the QR code parking due to it being a government parking garage. When I left with my friends, the door to enter the parking garage was locked and my friend punched in the code. I asked where they got the code and they said the hostess also told them they needed a code. They did not tell me I needed a code.

Ah but the service also sucked. We were given the smallest glass for pop I have ever seen in a restaurant which was half full of ice. It was about 150 ml of pop. I also ordered a glass of wine. Our entire table got no refills for an hour and my wine, when it came 20 min late was about 4 oz max. I had to eat my meal with nothing to drink and I did not enjoy it. We were give 2 different excuses about why the service was so slow. They comped us $10 off my meal. I tipped $2 and frankly after them not giving me the garage code would like my $2 back. I always tip 20% but only when justified.
