Waking up the ogre
Tonight, i suffered an overdose...
Not your typical drug overdose but an overdose of flavours. My belly hurts from having been over filled with food. Honestly, i ate too much it hurts. My mind is trying to make sense of this overwhelming experience.
Seriously, i am afraid to return to the BBQ Shop because they awakened the ogre in me, i simply could not stop until the plate was empty.
Me and Edith, we shared the dinner for 2 discovery plate with a side jamaican salad and we have been flabbergasted by the originality of this ecclectic mix of meat and deep fried food epitomized by their awesome out of this world half and half poutine. It’s a regular poutine topped with half chicken with spicy white sauce and half pulled pork with BBQ sauce.
At first you think: how can someone dare serve this? Who thinks of mixing spicy white sauce, BBQ sauce, poutine sauce, cheese, pork, chicken and french fries in one plate? My rational mind thinks it’s plain crazy but i am open to new ideas, i close my eyes and i let my sense be the ultimate judge. Oh my god, OMG! if food could cause an overdose of flavors, that would be it. For a moment, me and Edith we were not humans, we were ogres.
It felt like a psychedelic flavor trip in heaven.
If you have an inner carnivorous ogre, just go into that temple of pleasure.
A warning: don’t go there if you can’t appreciate a piece of meat with fries. You can order a side salad like we did but veggies are optional here. This is a place to worship the BBQ, meat, the smoker and deep fryer. Avoid if you are a weight...
Read moreMissed the mark!! For how thin they sliced that brisket, I have a hard time believing it was smoked till 203°. It was as thin as cold cut meat. I going to assume the brisket meat for the sandwich is clearly from yesterday, put into a fridge and sliced on a slicer cold the get it that thin or it's not smoked long enough.
When I serve or order a brisket sandwich I want nice 1/4" slices piled high. You couldn't even taste the meat. Sauces and cheese took over all the complexity of the smoke. (Which is hard to do in youre smoking with hickory) When you're charging 34$ with tip and taxes at noon for lunch, make it memorable. Also the machines are set to give minimum 18% tip as a fast option unless you change it yourself.
I've traveled extensively through the United States. All the big stops (Texas,Kansas, Carolinas). I love BBQ. With the ravishing reviews I couldn't say no to the BBQ shop. It might pass for Canadian BBQ but if this place was open in the big 3 states who are kings of the Que, the doors wouldn't stay open a year with the sad portion sizes and the price.
The only thing that saved the review not to be a one star is the Jamaican rice. Yes you read that correctly, the day Jamaican rice saved a smoke house. Go back and read what I said, because you'll never see it again.
It's a real shame because I'll never go back and I wanted to love it so bad. The search continues for REAL...
Read moreMy recent visit to this BBQ Shop left much to be desired. Despite the promising aroma of smoked meats wafting through the air, the reality fell short of expectations.
Firstly, the prices were exorbitant for what turned out to be average brisket. While I understand that quality comes at a cost, the lackluster flavor and texture of the meat failed to justify the steep price tag. It was a disappointing reminder that sometimes, paying more does not necessarily equate to better quality.
To make matters worse, the ambiance was far from inviting. The crooked tables and uneven seating made it difficult to enjoy our meal comfortably. It's puzzling how such a basic aspect of restaurant maintenance could be overlooked, especially in a place that prides itself on offering a premium dining experience.
Despite these shortcomings, the service was adequate, with staff members doing their best to accommodate patrons. However, it's clear that improvements are needed in various areas to elevate the overall dining experience.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend this place to fellow barbecue enthusiasts. With its overly priced menu and subpar ambiance, there are plenty of other establishments in town that offer better value for money and a more enjoyable...
