A MUST SEE REVIEW

Chicken noodle soup $20.00! Campbell soup is better to start. I specifically asked them in English because I don't speak Japanese (they are not Japanese) for chicken udon noodles with chicken and NOT the soup! When I phoned them they laughed at me and said sorry goodbye. Now the rest of this very wrong rated restaurant.

PEOPLE WARNING 2* RESTAURANT AT BEST!!!!

After you find parking which is almost impossible and you push your handicapped mother in the wheelchair that hasn't been out because of there mobility, define that there is no way in there except walking around a hotel looking for a room key to get through the hotel to a pathway for the wheelchair to find out it's all closed down with construction tape because the signs about to fall so, then you walk around the building with a wheelchair half a block to find out you reach a set of stairs that you cannot push a wheelchair up. Now your whole night is ruined.

Now the same thing except you do take out and find the cook outside spitting on the ground smoking. I've been to better soup kitchens on the east side of downtown than this place. Absolutely astonishing that I experienced this for the first time I don't know how they have anything more than two stars. Recommend just go across the street where you can park right out front and walk right in. I guess the food is good but that depends on how much smoke it's going...

Loved the layout of the restaurant. One portion was very open and contained traditional style seating. This room also offered a view of the kitchen and sushi chef. The other side was more intimate and had the view of the bar.

We ordered two different Bento boxes for lunch. One yam roll bento box and one sashimi bento.

Both came with a simple salad of romaine ettuce and sweet onion with a hand crafted citrus lemon dressing. This was a pleasant end to the meal.

The miso was delicious as was the teriyaki chicken and vegetables. The tempura was fresh and crispy. The sashimi tasted more than fresh and was extremely satisfying.

The service was quick and efficient. Out of all of the restaurants we visited in Gibson's during our stay, this had the best.

Was very surprised with the quality here. Would...

This was a fallback favourite restaurant for me on the Sunshine Coast. A solid sushi and sashimi menu reminded me of my favourite Japanese restaurants in the city, but without menu gimmicks. The chef boat offered a great selection and good value. Or it used to. The menu has changed without that chef boat, which had doubled in price when asked. Inflation is not so steep to justify that, but maybe it used to be a loss leader. Overall, I no longer consider this a value restaurant. But food quality remains high and service is good. If I remember correctly, background music used to be oddly, classical, but unobtrusive, now playing annoying loud pop vocals that interrupt conversation. Make your own call on this one...

I'm sad to say this was not a good experience. Perhaps I got unlucky and stopped in on an off day for the chef. The Katsu Don was a bowl of sheer sadness. Filled with an exceptionally soggy pork cutlet, some soaking wet shredded cabbage and egg. To make matters worse the whole thing was drowning in sauce in Titanic like fashion. The tempura was a soft and doughy like consistentency, it seemed to be underdone. We also ordered some salmon avocado rolls which were passable at best, fish didn't seem very fresh. Was really hoping for a decent Japanese meal here in Gibson's, but this one missed the mark by a long ways. I will say the service was friendly no complaints there.

5 stars for the service + 1 star for the food. This place is owned/run by koreans so instead of ordering sushi, we ordered authentic korean food (bibimbap-hot stone rice). As asians, we know we shouldnt be putting up high expectations on a restaurant that serves mostly non-asians. We were disappointed by how everything was just abt sweetness. Hot stone rice was too sweet. Spicy stir fry pork belly was inedible due to its sweetness. Ebi mayo was just fried starch - could barely find the ebi in it. Maybe we should have ordered sushi/sashimi, but it was a chilly christmas eve and we wanted something hot.

Delicious food & accomodating staff. Chef overheard us asking the waitress about vegetarian options and brought us a complimentary Vegetable Croquette (like a potato croquette but better) on the house. Rolls were great and Yakisoba tasted just like it did in Japan! When we asked what kind of tea we were drinking, the waitress decided to bring us 2 of the tea bags to take home, free of charge! Music sounded similar to what you might hear on the streets of Tokyo, just in Korean instead. Do try!
