Bar One — Restaurant in Grande Prairie

On August 28th, 2025, I decided to stop by Bar One for a quick snack and a drink. As I was staying at the Sandman Hotel, where Bar One is conveniently attached, it was a perfect option—especially after a long day of travel, I didn’t feel like driving around to find another restaurant. I arrived at approximately 8:00 PM, sat directly at the bar near the far corner by the VLTs, and was clearly visible to the two staff members working in the area. I waited for about 10-15 minutes, during which two servers moved in and out of the bar, attending to other tables. Despite this, I was completely ignored—none of the staff acknowledged my presence or even looked in my direction.

I used to work in the service industry myself, so I understand how difficult it can be when a place is short-staffed or busy. However, what I experienced at Bar One was truly horrible—completely unacceptable and incredibly rude. Even a simple acknowledgment or quick "I'll be with you in a minute" would have made a difference. Instead, I felt invisible and utterly disregarded. I wouldn’t recommend Bar One to anyone staying at the Sandman or in the area. Given the poor level of service, I can't suggest this pub to anyone.

Unfortunately, my experience at Bar One was very disappointing. Service: 0. Atmosphere: 0. I wasn't able to leave a review without selecting at least one star, but honestly, I wouldn't give this restaurant even one.

Went here for the first time to check it out since we lived in Grande Prairie last Friday. We ordered water to start, had to ask for menus and drink menus and then when our friends got there we ordered our first order of drinks, we were still waiting on water and our drinks took forever, then ordered food that took forever while waiting, asked server for another round of drinks and that took forever to get again, had to ask for napkins, finally when we got the food the server dropped the target sauce on the ground, then spilt the beers. We had to ask for cutlery after we got our food. Had to ask for condiments and more tartar sauce and the coleslaw twice, by the time that came out i was done my fries. The food was cold, portions were small, the food and service were absolutely horrible, it wasn’t even busy for a Friday. When we asked for our bill, that yet again took forever. We will not be going back there, first and last time...

About the only thing they're missing is draft beer. Sometimes they have it and sometimes they don't. Too unpredictable. UPDATE: they have draft now, and the staff I've seen have been there for a while!

The sooner the management from Denny's is no longer involved here, the better. It should be run as a separate entity with people who know how to run a lounge. They clearly don't have the expertise or a full-time manager dedicated to making this place a success.
