Monica’s Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Grande Prairie

I brought a date here a few weeks ago. All in all, this place gave me mixed feelings.

My date was a vegetarian and with everything under restrictions at this time, I found Monica's vegetarian menu excellent for its variety. Myself, I've never gone for vegetarian options but decided to give their vegan sausage dinner a try. The mashed potato's though good were very heavy and could feel it go down and stay for some time. The sausages were quite good, and worth a try. As far as quantity and quality goes, it was quite hearty and looked great!

Prior to our visit, I had spoken to a woman named Betty on the phone about the menu and after explaining the situation of my interest, she arranged to have Carnations put on my table. Betty was wonderful in her customer service and her efforts were appreciated.

The service was insufficient, and slightly uncomfortable. For the majority of our stay we were the only customers. The gentleman who served us sat in the corner and had been staring at my date for sometime, she is beautiful but it was unwelcoming. When it came too our drinks we sat with empty cups for long periods of time. When we had finished eating, the gentleman who had served us did not return to the table. After an hour or more I had to go to him and ask for a refill. Throughout our visit he was very dissonant and our service quality declined from start to finish.

During our stay, the owner offered to buy us drinks, it was kind and flattering. As neither of us drink, we humbly declined. The offer was appreciated.

Towards the end, unknown too me, someone was exclaiming 'Hail Hitler'. Unfortunatly, this, compiled with our service; we decided that we won't be returning.

Should you look to Monica's for take out or delivery, I recommend this establishment wholeheartily. Alas, your dine in may be met similarily to ours and I suggest you avoid such...

I travel quite a bit for work, some hotel stays are good n some are not so good. My experiences n visits with Stanford hotel have been exquisite to say the least. Over the past year I have frequented many other hotels in the area and their staff n food have been better than most and most importantly affordable.

They have great housekeeping by a cute curvy brunette who does a phenomenal job, she keeps my room fresh n clean always. A pleasant surprise for when I return back to my room from my busy day. They have a gym that I have used in the past which is unfortunately closed due to COVID19. My mornings have always blessed with good energy when I stay n that makes a huge difference. The girls at Monica's do an amazing job at making u feel welcome when we were able to dine in and now they offer room service to your door delivered by the boys Yogi, Joseph n Duke, even when it's -20c outside, it's still hot n ready for u so compliments to the chef !

The front desk staff have done a great job making my stay memorable, from issuing breakfast vouchers to saving me with new room key cards when I have locked myself out of my room, their hospitality has been 5 star. If u ask me what separates them from the rest, I would say it's the staff hands down.

If I had to offer constructive criticism or negative feedback there's a few things that come to mind. To start I would say the bathroom could use a little reno fix up, some rooms the hanger fittings on the back of the bathroom door are missing n the toilette clogs easily sometimes. But overall my visits have been good n staff is willing to go above n beyond to deliver fantastic service. So enjoy your visit if u try them n don't forget to leave a tip for their stellar service. Really dissapointed based on the Trip Advisor rating of "best breakfast place in town". We were visiting and didn't know where to go for breakfast so went with Monica's based on this rating. As we are in an unusual time with the Covid Pandemic, protocols in place for mask wearing, social distancing etc are also very important to us. The info on line indicated they took special care and enforced above. Signs out front of entrance also requested protocols be followed, however numerous people showed up without masks, and what really surprised us was that the only server working this busy restaurant had her mask under her chin most of the time. Clearly not taking this pandemic seriously, and therefore not enforcing customer base either. The food was cold once we got it which wasn't surprising as only 1 server working- she was obviously experienced but couldn't keep up with coffee refills, water etc. Aside from the food being cold when we received it, things like using margarine on the toast and packaged hollandaise sauce completely downgraded the food value Definately would...
