The reviews made us come visit this historic restaurant which was established in 1952. Family owned Canadian style food. The restaurant was full and the wait line was long which further fuelled my craving and now even more curious to try the food out. The main reason also was the fact that the reviews mentioned Vegan menu! A whole page for Vegan options! How wonderful is that ! It’s good to see the way people view and accept new ways in food and habits. Inclusion is most appealing. Sadly I was not impressed by the service or server Cathy was extremely unresponsive, excruciatingly slow and for each and every thing it took a long time. We spent more than 2 and half hours in ( eating food took max 20 minutes) many tables around got filled served and paid during our time in. Plus the only non vegan dish I ordered was veg skillet ( mixed veggies with house fries and scrambled eggs) was only fries and an chewy omelette cut in pieces 😱 It was loaded with fat grease and Carbs no soft fluffy Scrambled eggs no vegetables visible, just so disappointing. The poutine was good the gravy tasty and portion size huge. The vegan French toast could do with some more flavour and the whipped coconut cream was a bite size portion ( they could have been generous with it) the strawberries too was scarce. Overall I would vegans was better. They don’t serve any fresh juices which is a shame for any brunch place. Mimosas made with canned juice! This place is ideal for lots of grease Carbs and unhealthy food options. Felt like one of the unhealthy American diners. Would never go back Totally waste of my tummy space and health and money and time!

Went there on both Thursday and Friday this week. The food was top-tier. Very fresh and cooked perfectly with tons of flavor and a real home-cooked vibe. My parents had the chicken parmesan and they got it with two pieces of chicken. It was such a large serving of food that it could easily have served another person is in addition to them! I tried some of the spaghetti and it was perfectly done and tasted so good! I had the Spartan burger and it was really like a burger and a Reuben sandwich combined. It was simply delicious, bursting flavor and had a perfectly cooked patty. At our next visit, the next day, we all had the breakfast and we chose to have the grilled home fries. They were soft and flavorful had all the yumminess of pan fried potatoes. They even have an option to put grilled onions on top which impressed us all and they were SO good. They also offer the option of rye toast! The baked beans also impressed us because not a lot of restaurants offer those. They were soft, flavorful tomato beans and were perfectly seasoned. I had the hungry man breakfast because I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat. It was filling, tasty and wholesome comfort food - and they serve it all day to boot! I'm moving to Sudbury soon and I will honestly say that they have won a customer over. At both of our visits, the staff were nothing but kind to me and my parents and made me feel right at home in a city where I don't know anybody yet. I will be back again. ♡

The food was pretty good, my home fries were a little underdone nothing special about them oh, I also got a crepe which is $9 but it was Giant and it was very tasty I also got a side of strawberries with cream to put on top. I give it a 3.5 for breakfast, service was very good. I'll come back and try lunch and supper another time.

Came here today and was asked to wait for an open booth with my family of 5 (3 children 2 adults). This makes sense due to the size of our party. There were a few couples which arrived after us which were seated first and my daughter stated that was unfair. I educated my daughter to the fact that it’s easier for a table of 2 to open up than it is for a booth to seat the 5 of us. Another couple came and were seated at a booth. Ten minutes passes and another booth opened up to seat us now. Quickly I looked at the other booths and seen that the sizing of all booths can fit us all. Therefore the previous couple who came in was indeed seated first for no reason.

At this point our waitress was kind and taken our order. Several others were seated after us. It was after waiting approximately 25 minutes when I saw how others received their food first. Another 10 minutes passes and our food was presented to us. However, my girlfriends daughter, who had ordered a micky mouse pancake did not receive her food. Another 8 minutes passes and I see the table next to us (couple who was seated after us) receives their meal (included a pancake). Two more minutes passes and we finally receive micky mouse pancake, which was NOT shaped like micky mouse. I kindly asked if I could be educated on the priority of the kitchen and how the dishes were prioritized. Our waitress advised she just brings the food the kitchen makes and she’d get the owner.

The owner came to my attention and asked how she could help. I again kindly asked if I could be educated on the priority. She then stated “can’t you see that we’re busy!?” And got very irritated with my question. She also stated “what’s your problem? You got your food!” I simply again stated, “no problem I was just asking a question”. She then stated that I was being unreasonable for asking. They’re busy and they are “Sudbury Best Restaurant” that’s why they’re so busy. I advised the table next to us arrived later and received their pancake first and that our kid had to watch us eat before she got her meal (I was raised that kids eat first mentality). She argued and said that this did not happen. She got irritated and asked the table next to us if they got their pancake first. They stated they did not know. I was shocked and asked if this is how she does business and that it’s unprofessional to disturb another customer with my issues. She got very mad at this and asked if I would like the $6 off my bill for the pancake. I said yes. She then left and shortly came back with a pancake in the shape of micky mouse (finally not just a blob… good job).

When presenting this new pancake I did not ask for she said “see! Simple! Takes two minutes”. I’m not sure what the meaning of this was for.. besides proving my point that my gf daughter should not have waited 10 minutes after we received our food to get her pancake (which was made in a rush). Then my gf told the owner that the owner is making a scene and to please stop. The Owner ultimately stated “if you don’t like it you can leave”. I asked politely “are you kicking us out?” She stated “yes, you and your family can GET OUT”. I asked “so it’s free then?” She said “yes get out”.

So shout out for the free food from the Hot Head Owner. I’ll gladly take my business to Gus’s Restaurant, a far friendlier Owner. If I had five thumbs I’d give this place five thumbs down.

By the way I’ve been coming to this place since 2003 and the service today was just plain pathetic. Must be new ownership. And also FYI I was only looking for an apology with some kind of fake excuse. Make something up and apologies and give a small discount. That’s called customer service. You lost more money doing what you did and also looked like a real champ kicking out a family just asking for an...
