M.I.C. Canadian Eatery & Whisky Pub — Restaurant in Greater Sudbury

Nothing special This was the second time we have tried M.I.C. The first time was last summer and we were less than impressed about the calibre of food we received given the high recommendations. We chalked it up due to the fact we were a large party plus there was a second large party in the restaurant that evening so not unfeasible for the kitchen to struggle. With that in mind we decided to give it a second try. Our impression didn’t improve. My husband ordered the mushrooms Neptune, the flavour was ‘good’ however the cream cheese over powered the mushroom and the filling was room temperature at best. I ordered the 8oz sirloin with the bay of Fundy Gravy. For a price equal to what I would pay at the Keg I would expect more than a grocery store quality steak and chopped seafood. A thicker cut would’ve ensured a proper cook on the steak and whole scallops and shrimp would’ve been preferred. One party at our table ordered the chicken stuffed with brie. The chicken was horribly over cooked and dry, and we are assuming due to this the brie had all oozed out. The other 2 people at our table ordered the rib dinners and the ribs were good but that’s where that ended. The beans were undercooked, hard and chalky still and the gravy was comparable to beef bouillon. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. It was Super Bowl Sunday that we went but it was well before the game started and the restaurant was not overly busy with diners but admittedly they were busy with take out orders. It felt as though the in house diners were a second thought and our meals sat under a heat lamp for far too long. Slow service. Food looked good but was of poor quality. We were sat in the bar to wait for out table and bartender had no idea how to make drinks. Got seated quickly and my mother in law had to wait 15 minutes to get our drinks from the bar to bring to table. Why wouldn't they just bring them to our table? Waitress took order for starters and did not return to entree order for almost 15 minutes. Asked for 3 waters, got 2. Garlic bread had no garlic to it, just toasted bread with cheese. My husband veal picata just tasted like lemon juice and the pasta tasted like bad Kraft dinner. Fries were ok and my chicken club was ok but nothing special. Ordered fish and chips for my son. Fish was floppy and flavorless and he wouldn't eat it (he eats everything). Had to ask for napkins twice. They were apologetic about the wait but blamed it on getting hit with reservations and someone calling in sick. Fine, I worked as a waitress for years, I know how it is. But is that my problem? I saw servers waiting time at every turn. Is there some necessity for you to be standing around? Food takes time, kitchens get backed up, that I can understand. But all the more reason to get moving and get orders taken. We were not the only table that was unhappy with the service and meal, I saw at least 2 others complaining and looking frustrated. MIC has potential but needs to get it together in the kitchen and in the dining room. I actually regretted going...

My husband and I went here an it was a little busy so we decided to sit at the bar to the left. My husband was near the restaurant/bar drop off and pick up area, which was a little awkward but entertaining so we were making the most of it as we were hoping to experience some different Whiskeys.

There were 2 bartenders working and after a 10 minutes one asked if we would like anything to drink? No menus or drink suggestions, whiskey similarities or anything. So we both just plainly said beer because that is the tap that was sitting in front of us.

After my husband almost finished his beer and I was half finished our server would you like menus? Yes please was our answer.

By the time she got back to us with menus both of us had now finished our beer. She asked if we would like another. We did order a round, while she was cleaning the glass, the spray hit the bar and us, hey accidents happen. She was wiping the bar and we started shaking our hands dry. No apology at all....let alone napkins. Husband wanted to leave at this point but we were already here.

We ordered wings and rueben balls. Our beers were about half full when the food came out. The food was decent.

We finished our second beers for about 20mins before they asked if the food was okay. At that time we just asked for containers as I wanted to just wanted to go home.

We should have left when my husband wanted to better yet not...
